Our CIMA+ | B&A team has an exciting opportunity for a Senior Communications & Engagement Specialist to join our growing team. The Senior Communications & Engagement Specialist plays a key role in developing and delivering clear, thoughtful, and inclusive communications and engagement programs for a diverse range of projects and clients. This role leads project communications and engagement strategies, provides strategic advice, and represents projects publicly on complex, technical, or sensitive matters. Working with interdisciplinary teams, the Senior Specialist also supports the growth of our practice and mentors less experienced team members.

Responsibilities:

• Leads the development and implementation of communications and engagement strategies, plans, schedules, and materials aligned with project needs, milestones, approval processes, and client objectives.
• Provides strategic communications and engagement advice to clients and project teams, including support related to project approvals, stakeholder relationships, issues management, and reputational matters.
• Develops, reviews, and oversees content for project websites, e-newsletters, mailouts, information packages, social media, media releases and advisories, key messages, presentations, and other project communications.
• Translates complex technical, planning, and project information into clear, accessible, and audience-appropriate content for a wide range of stakeholders and communities.
• Plans, manages, and delivers engagement activities including workshops, open houses, small-format meetings, stakeholder interviews, advisory groups, and online outreach.
• Facilitates public and stakeholder meetings and represents projects professionally and empathetically when engaging with community members, clients, project partners, elected officials, regulators, media, and other audiences.
• Leads stakeholder feedback analysis and oversees consultation records, engagement summaries, reports, responses, recommendations, and mitigation strategies.
• Directs research, stakeholder and audience analysis, and communications planning to support project strategy and decision-making.
• Manages media materials, media inquiries, monitoring, key messages, and project reputation matters, and supports clients in preparing for public-facing communications.
• Contributes to corporate communications, proposals, business development, client relationship building, and the continued growth of the Communications & Engagement practice. Provides guidance, mentorship, and quality review support to junior team members.

Qualifications

• 5+ years of progressive experience in communications, public relations, public engagement, facilitation, community relations, community building, or a related consulting field.
• Degree or diploma in Public Relations, Communications, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
• Demonstrated experience developing and executing communications and engagement strategies for a variety of industries, projects, clients, and audiences.
• Strong facilitation experience across workshops, public meetings, stakeholder sessions, and other engagement activities, including complex, technical, or sensitive projects.
• Exceptional writing, editing, research, analytical, presentation, and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate technical information into clear and accessible language.
• Strong judgement, organization, empathy, and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple projects, priorities, and deadlines.
• Ability to work independently, lead assigned workstreams, provide strategic advice to clients, and collaborate effectively in interdisciplinary teams.
• Experience designing inclusive engagement approaches for diverse or underrepresented communities is considered an asset.
• Experience with media relations, issues management, media monitoring, and reputational communications is considered an asset.
• Knowledge of Canadian government institutions, municipal planning, land use approvals, Indigenous engagement and consultation, or official consultation record-keeping is considered an asset.
• Membership, training, or certification with IAP2, IABC, CPRS, or a similar professional organization is considered an asset.
• Familiarity with common communications, engagement, design, survey, media monitoring, and Microsoft Office 365 platforms is considered an asset.
