The Role
As the leader within our Software Development team, the Director of Software plays a crucial role in steering our software initiatives towards aligning with strategic business goals and delivering cutting-edge solutions. This senior position requires a strong background in software development, particularly in the oil and gas sector and a deep understanding of GIS data management and ESRI technologies. The role requires a strategic thinker with a proven track record of managing development teams, collaborating with sales departments, and driving technological innovation.
Key Duties
Leadership & Management
- Lead and manage the software development department, overseeing all aspects of the software development lifecycle (SDLC) from conception to deployment.
- Develop and implement software development strategies that align with the company's business goals and objectives.
- Manage and mentor a team of software developers, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
Strategy & Planning
- Develop and implement software development strategies that align with the company's business goals and objectives.
- Coordinate with stakeholders to gather requirements and define project scopes, ensuring timely and on-budget delivery of software projects.
Software Development & Quality Assurance
- Oversee the design, development, and maintenance of software solutions, ensuring they meet high standards of quality, performance, and security.
- Implement best practices for software development, including agile methodologies, code reviews, and automated testing.
Innovation & Technology
- Drive innovation within the team by staying up-to-date with the latest industry trends and technologies, particularly in GIS and ESRI platforms.
- Ensure the scalability and sustainability of software solutions to support the company's growth and long-term success.
Collaboration, Quality & Sustainability
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including sales, product management, and customer support, to ensure seamless integration of software solutions.

About You:
Required Education, Experience & Credentials
- Bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Proven experience (8+ years) in software development, with a significant portion in the oil and gas industry
Required Knowledge, Skills & Competencies
- Strong knowledge of GIS data, ESRI platforms, and related technologies.
- Demonstrated experience in leading and managing software development teams.
- Deep understanding of the software development lifecycle and agile methodologies.
- Experience working closely with sales and marketing teams to align software products with market needs.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically and drive innovation.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams and stakeholders.
- Experience with cloud-based solutions and services.
- Knowledge of data analytics and machine learning applications in the oil and gas industry.
- Familiarity with regulatory and compliance standards related to software in the oil and gas sector.
