Nanny Wanted - After School Caregiver Needed For Sweet 5 Year Old Boy Herring Cove, Ns $25/Hr

Hi! We are looking for a kind, reliable and responsible person to provide after-school care for our 5 year old son, Cameron, beginning in September. Cameron has Sotos syndrome and autism and has developmental and speech delays. He is an incredibly sweet and happy little boy who loves Peppa Pig, playing outside, swinging and doing his own thing. He is generally very quiet and easygoing and rarely has meltdowns or outbursts. This is a part-time, live-out position, Monday - Friday from 2:30 - 4:30 PM during the school year, at $25/hour. Availability on school closure days and holidays would be a great bonus, but is absolutely not necessary. The main responsibility will be picking Cameron up from his elementary school in Herring Cove at 2:30pm and bringing him back to our home, which is only about a 1 minute drive from the school. Because school pickup is required, applicants must have a valid driver’s licence, reliable vehicle and be comfortable transporting a child. Once home, the afternoon is pretty simple: giving Cameron a snack, playing with him, spending time outside when the weather is nice and keeping him happy and safe until around 4:30pm. I am self-employed and work from my home salon, so I will generally be downstairs working during these hours. If I finish my day early, you will still be paid for the full 2 hours every shift. One important consideration is that Cameron has limited awareness of danger and can be a flight risk, so safety and close supervision are very important. We have a large, fully fenced backyard where he loves to play, and Cameron wears a GPS tracker for additional peace of mind. He still needs to have eyes on him at all times for safety reasons. Experience with children with autism, developmental disabilities or additional support needs would be a major asset. More than anything, we are hoping to find someone dependable, patient and caring who can commit consistently throughout the school year and develop a great relationship with Cameron. We are a loving and welcoming family and are really looking forward to integrating someone new into Cameron’s support system. We will be requesting references, a Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check and Child Abuse Register Check before hiring, and would like to arrange a meet and greet with Cameron before making a final decision.
