Superintendent – Commercial Construction
Location: Edmonton, AB
Overview
Our client, a well-established and reputable general contractor, is seeking an experienced Superintendent to oversee commercial construction projects across the Edmonton region. This role is responsible for managing all on-site activities, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, and to the highest quality standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong leadership capabilities, a proactive approach to problem-solving, and a track record of successfully delivering complex commercial builds.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead all on-site construction activities from project start through completion
- Develop and maintain detailed construction schedules in collaboration with the Project Manager
- Coordinate and supervise subcontractors, trades, and site staff
- Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards at all times
- Conduct regular site inspections to monitor progress, quality, and adherence to plans and specifications
- Identify and resolve construction issues proactively to minimize delays and cost impacts
- Maintain accurate site documentation including daily reports, safety records, and progress updates
- Collaborate closely with project stakeholders including clients, consultants, and internal teams
- Support procurement planning, material deliveries, and site logistics
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior site staff and forepersons
Qualifications & Experience
- 5–10+ years of experience as a Superintendent or Lead Hand in commercial construction
- Proven experience delivering projects such as institutional, mixed-use, multi-family, or large-scale commercial builds
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, building codes, and safety regulations in Alberta
- Demonstrated ability to manage schedules, budgets, and subcontractor performance
- Proficient with construction management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project)
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills
- Valid safety certifications (e.g., CSTS, First Aid); Gold Seal Certification is an asset
