Position Overview:
Westerner Park is seeking casual Line Cooks to join our dynamic team. The Line Cook primarily works during events at concession locations within the Centrium and Pavilions and plays a key role in delivering high-quality, fast-paced food service. This hands-on position is responsible for preparing and serving concession-style food items while maintaining food safety, quality, and efficiency standards. The Line Cook may also support kitchen operations for special events, catering, and banquets as required.

Under the direction of the Assistant Manager, Warehouse and Kitchen Operations, and Event & Catering Chef, the Line Cook is responsible for the following: 

Key Responsibilities
The Line Cooks will be responsible for the following:

Food Preparation & Cooking 

• Set up assigned station according to pre-determined guidelines and service requirements 
• Prepare and cook menu items in a sanitary and timely manner 
• Follow recipes, portion controls, and presentation specifications as set by the Chef and/or Manager 
• Ensure all products are cooked to appropriate internal temperatures and kept out of the food “danger zone” 
• Serve food in proper portion sizes and at the correct temperature 
• Ensure timely preparation of all meals and that correct quantities are produced to meet daily needs 
• Utilize kitchen equipment properly and safely during food preparation 
• Restock station items as needed throughout shift 
• Assist with daily prep tasks including chopping, portioning, sauces, and other duties 

Sanitation, Food Safety & Compliance 

• Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workstation at all times 
• Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations 
• Properly label, cover, and store food items according to standards and procedures 
• Assist with cleaning and sanitizing kitchen areas including walk-in coolers, fryers, grills, equipment, floors, and storage areas 
• Ensure dishes for customers with food allergies or intolerances meet strict specifications and comply with restrictions 

Teamwork & Operational Support 

• Work efficiently and calmly during high-volume service periods 
• Communicate clearly and professionally with kitchen team members and supervisors 
• Assist supervisors in responding to employee inquiries regarding food preparation, storage, spoilage, and sanitation 
• Support other stations and team members as needed 
• Follow directions from Chef or Kitchen Manager 

Inventory & Organization 

• Monitor station inventory and communication shortages 
• Restock and rotate food products using FIFO (First In, First Out) practices 
• Minimize waste and follow cost-control procedures 
• Assist with receiving and organizing deliveries as required 

This role is expected to adapt to changes and take on additional duties as requested.

Here is What You Bring
The ideal candidate will have:

• Related education in culinary arts or food service is an asset. 
• Minimum 1 year of cooking experience preferred. 
• Ability to read and follow instructions as per Recipes and BEOs. 
• Knowledge of methods and procedures for food preparation and service, principles of sanitation, and safe food handling. 
• Effective communication skills. 
• Attention to detail in all areas of work. 
• Strong problem identification and resolution skills. 
• Strong work ethic and a positive, team-oriented attitude.
