The Division of Neurosurgery in the Sprott Department of Surgery at the University Health Network (UHN), Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and the University of Toronto are accepting applications for a full-time Academic Neurosurgeon at the rank of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor, with a specific interest and demonstrated training and experience in skull base surgery and neuro-oncology. The individual we seek should have advanced training and skills in these areas through formal fellowship experience; completion of a fellowship in skull base surgery and neurosurgical oncology is mandatory. Depending on the successful candidate’s University of Toronto faculty status, the applicant may be eligible to apply for the Crean Hotson Chair in Skull Base Surgery.

The effective date of this appointment will be July 1st 2027, but can be flexible depending on the candidate.

The successful applicant will manage patients with complex intracranial and skull base pathology, including primary and metastatic brain tumours, pituitary and anterior/lateral/posterior skull base lesions, and other neuro-oncologic disease. The primary appointment of the individual will be in the Division of Neurosurgery at UHN, which offers an excellent opportunity for career development with an internationally recognized tradition of academic neurosurgery situated in a rich clinical and academic environment. The Division has a well-established subspecialty practice in skull base surgery and neuro-oncology, with a long-standing history of multidisciplinary care in the neuro-oncology program. The candidate should display interest and training in open and endoscopic skull base approaches and collaborative multidisciplinary neuro-oncology care. The candidate will be considered active staff, covering neurosurgical call; educating neurosurgery trainees, medical students, and other learners; promoting a positive work culture and supportive training environment; prioritizing patient-centred care; and striving for diversity within the community. Evidence of excellence in teaching and research is required.

The successful candidate will be appointed either a surgeon-teacher, or surgeon-investigator, or surgeon-scientist and must demonstrate a strong record of teaching and research excellence, as appropriate. Applicants are required to hold an MD degree and certification in Neurosurgery from the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, or a recognized equivalent certifying body. The candidate must have completed a residency program in Neurosurgery as well as a fellowship in Skull Base Surgery . A secondary graduate degree at the masters (MSc) or doctoral level (PhD) is required. The individual must be eligible for licensure by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario. All candidates must be proficient in English.

Applicants should demonstrate a track record of commitment to excellence in neurosurgical training, clinical service, and scholarship, and seek a position that would involve a significant time commitment to academic activities focused on research. This position entails a full-time faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery at the University of Toronto. The candidate must be eligible for an appointment at the academic rank of Assistant/Associate or Full Professor.

Remuneration will be derived from a variety of sources, primarily from, but not limited to, fee-for-service clinical billings, and commensurate with rank as a member of the Clinical Faculty, qualifications, and experience. Academic start-up funds or a research Chair will be provided in alignment with the credentials and experience of the candidate. Based on the expected clinical workload, the annual base compensation for this position is estimated to be $500,000. The specific amount will depend on the individual's clinical workload, ensuring that the compensation reflects the responsibilities undertaken.
