Utility Operator I – Storm & Wastewater

3 Permanent Full-Time Positions (CUPE Local 2011)

The Engineering Department plays a vital role in designing, maintaining, and improving the district’s infrastructure and public services. Our team is driven by innovation, community impact, and a commitment to delivering high-quality, cost-effective engineering solutions that support the needs of residents and businesses across Saanich.

As a Utility Operator I , you will work in and around creeks and waterways and understand environmental protocols and best management practices. You will also: assist in the operations of sewer and drain equipment and machinery; assist in bank stabilization, gabion installation and lift station construction; as well as assist in spill response.

Requirements include Grade 12 or equivalent; one year of pipefitting experience in water or wastewater systems; EOCP OIT (Operator in Training) Certification for Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection is considered an asset; Traffic Control Certificate; Occupational First Aid Level 1 and confined space entry training as required; and basic navigation skills of field-based GIS software. A valid Class 3 BC Driver’s Licence with air brake endorsement is an asset and annual renewal of a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract are also required. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

The successful candidate will work Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. (40 hours per week).  In addition to the interview process, testing will be conducted . Only those under consideration will be contacted.
