Job Summary
The Clinical Dietitian II is responsible for the provision of clinical nutrition services to inpatients of the Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology Units at the Health Sciences Centre. This includes providing expertise in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patients' nutritional care. Patients of these units have diverse nutritional needs and may include adults and frail elderly who have acute and/or chronic disease, are at risk of or have poor nutritional intake, malnutrition, increased nutrient needs, feeding difficulties, dysphagia and other nutrition concerns. The dietitians' practice will include standard, advanced and specialized nutrition care including enteral and parenteral nutrition, therapeutic diet and texture modifications, nutrition education and coordination of care with the interdisciplinary team and relevant healthcare professionals. This position may be required to provide nutrition care to other areas of the surgery program based on operational requirements.
The dietitian is an active member of the interdisciplinary care team, educates team members on the importance of nutrition in improving patient outcomes, and participates in interdisciplinary team meetings/rounds. Proficiency in the use of CBORD as a tool to communicate with Food Services personnel and to assist in clinical nutrition decision making is required. Engagement in practice, program and quality improvement initiatives is required. Competency in enteral and parenteral nutrition must be demonstrated and maintained while working in this role. In support of NL Health Services Dietetic Internship Program, the incumbent is required to preceptor Dietetic Interns and contribute nutrition expertise to program delivery.
This position reports to the Division Manager of Neurosurgery, Orthopedics and Urology and maintains accountability to the Provincial Professional Practice Consultant for Dietitians for integrity and professional practice.

Regularly requires a high level of attentiveness for exact results and precision to determine nutrition diagnosis and interventions (e.g. calculations required for patients with renal disease, requiring tube feeding and/or Parental Nutrition).
Job Qualifications
Bachelor of Science Degree in Nutrition/Dietetics or equivalent from an accredited university program and successful completion of an accredited dietetic internship program is required.
Current registration with the Newfoundland and Labrador College of Dietitians (NLCD) is required.
Prior experience as a Clinical Dietitian is an asset.
The Clinical Dietitian is required to be competent in the area of adult enteral and parenteral nutrition support and to maintain competency while working in this role.
Compliance with the NLHS RD Parenteral Nutrition Competency Program is required.
A satisfactory record of work performance is required.
