Health Care Support Worker - Gynecology

The Role

The department is Gynaecology. We are predominantly a surgical ward. We look after pregnant patients up to 12 weeks gestation with various issues as well as oncology patients.

The ward has a mini emergency dept within it. We see emergencies from GP/A&E plus provide some return appointments through this service also.

Duration, Location, and Working Pattern:

• Location based in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital
• Full-time position (36 hours per week)
• Permanent Contract
• Shift pattern for this post are Days/nights

Key Responsibilities

• Basic patient care, helping with daily ADLs.
• Catheter care and venflon management.
• Venepuncture,
• Observations and NEWS recording,
• MUST scoring,
• Active care/fluid balance/food record charts,
• Admin and IT systems
• Learnpro and Infection control measures.

Knowledge, training, qualifications and/or experience required to do the job:

• Experience in a band 2 Health Care Assistant Post.
• Accurate keyboard and data entry.
• Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
• Ability to organise and prioritise workload, without supervision, in a busy environment.
• Ability to work on own initiative in a proactive manner.
• Effective written and verbal communication, literary and numeracy skills.
• Ability to follow instructions and a willingness to learn.
• A basic awareness of the importance of good hygiene.
• Ability to use IT systems.
• Flexible and adaptable.
• Ability to fulfil all requirements of the job description.
