Community Teaching Kitchen Manager

Job Responsibility:

The Riversyde 83 Community Kitchen Manager (CKM) will develop and manage the delivery of the food skills and community kitchen programs at Riversyde 83. Working in collaboration with and reporting to the Board of Church Out Serving (or its designate - Riversyde 83 Operations Manager), the CKM will embody and embrace the heart of Church Out Serving, evidenced by having a strong alignment with our vision, mission and values.

The CKM will have a heart for serving our community through the delivery of outstanding educational programs for people from all ages and backgrounds with a focus on preparing and eating healthy, local foods and building strong social connections.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The CKM will be responsible for the following tasks:

· Work with the Church Out Serving Board designate to continue developing goals and objectives for community kitchens, food skills workshops and classes

· Schedule community kitchen and food skills programs to achieve the RS83 program objectives

· Plan and tailor workshops and classes for various age groups, demographics and life circumstances, skill levels and interests

· Develop interesting and relevant curriculum, teaching strategies and recipes that encourage food literacy in the community, enhance knowledge and interest in eating local, healthy, fresh foods, and highlight local farms and in season food items

o Foster a welcoming, fun, and safe learning environment for participants

o Teach engaging and interactive class sessions that guide and inspire

o Create multi-media learning materials

· Host and deliver community kitchen and food skills programs in collaboration with the Chef

· Manage and train other program support staff/volunteers as applicable

· Implement and maintain excellent food safe standards in the community kitchen in adherence with Riversyde 83's health and safety policies and practices

· Ensure all equipment, appliances, workstations and utensils are clean and in good working order prior to each class, and returned to same after class

· Manage program budgets, food and supply purchases, and inventories

· Recruit and register program participants, develop promotional materials

· Assist with the development and implementation of program evaluation tools and processes in order to conduct program evaluation, make relevant program improvements and prepare reports for RS83 Operations Manager and relevant funders as applicable

· Contribute to a healthy collaborative staff team

· Other duties as assigned

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

· Experience in education and group facilitation, community kitchens, and food services projects is an asset.

· Excellent communication (written and verbal), facilitation, interpersonal and teamwork skills.

· Basic cooking skills and knowledge of or interest in healthy eating and nutrition are an asset.

· Attention to detail and an excellent sense of organization.

· An interest and enthusiasm for working in a community organization committed to serving others. Experience working in non-profit is an asset.

· Experience working with diverse groups of people including volunteers, vulnerable populations, children/youth, seniors, and families.

· Must carry a valid food handlers certificate, or be willing to take the training to receive certification.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $55,000.00-$60,000.00 per year
