Your role: 

The Senior Tax Accountant plays a key role in delivering tax compliance, planning, and advisory services to a diverse portfolio of clients. This position assumes ownership of complex engagements, provides technical expertise, mentors junior team members, and works closely with Managers and Partners to deliver high-quality client service.

Client service delivery

• Prepare and review complex corporate, personal, trust, partnership, charity, and not-for-profit tax returns.


• Prepare and review tax elections, rollover transactions, reorganizations, and other specialized tax filings.


• Conduct technical tax research and develop practical recommendations for clients and engagement teams.


• Assist with the development and implementation of tax planning strategies.


• Prepare tax planning memoranda, correspondence, and client presentations.


• Review work completed by junior staff and provide meaningful coaching and feedback.
  


• Identify issues, risks, and opportunities and escalate matters appropriately.


• Correspond with the Canada Revenue Agency regarding assessments, audits, reviews, objections, and information requests.


• Produce accurate, complete, and professional deliverables that meet firm quality standards.
  

Client relationship management

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and their advisors.


• Serve as a trusted point of contact for day-to-day client inquiries.
  


• Anticipate client needs and identify opportunities to provide additional value.


• Participate in networking and relationship-building activities.
  

Practice development

• Provide day-to-day coaching and technical guidance to junior staff.
  


• Assist with training initiatives, knowledge sharing sessions, and technical presentations.
  


• Demonstrate leadership through accountability, professionalism, and positive influence.
  


• Participate in process improvement initiatives to enhance efficiency and quality.
  

What you bring to the table:

• Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) Designation or equivalent


• Successful completion of the Common Final Evaluation (CFE), at a minimum, writing the CFE within a year.


• Interest in completing the In-Depth Tax Course or an equivalent program is an asset.


• Minimum 3 years of public accounting experience, including relevant tax experience.


• Tax research, HST, or U.S. tax experience is an asset, but not required.


• Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Copilot, Outlook, Teams), Caseware/Caseview, professional tax preparation and research software.
  


• Excellent communication and organizational skills


• Interest in supervising and developing staff


• Ability to prioritize and manage deliverables, adhering to time and budget constraints


• Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills
