Team Lead Classification

We are seeking a Team Lead - Customs Classification and Compliance to lead and supervise activities related to tariff classification and regulatory compliance within our cross-border operations. In this role, you will play a key part in mitigating customs risks, optimizing operational efficiency, and developing a team of specialists.

YOU'LL HAVE THE OPPORTUNITY TO:

Team Supervision and Management:

• Supervise, lead, train, coach, and mentor a team of 3 to 4 people.

• Lead employees and advise them on developing and implementing service quality assessment strategies.

• Plan and ensure financial control of the team's budget and expenses.

Customs Classification, Compliance, and Services:

• Ensure accurate tariff classification of products in accordance with the Harmonized System (HS) and maintain databases up to date.

• Advise clients on customs tariffs and analyze statistical data on international trade in goods and services.

• Ensure compliance with customs laws, trade agreements, and internal policies for import and export flows (Canada and U.S.).

• Resolve complex or contentious classification cases and act as a subject matter expert with customs authorities.

Analysis, Quality, and Operations Optimization:

• Analyze and advise on management methods and organizational structure.

• Conduct studies to evaluate the effectiveness and proper functioning of management policies and programs.

• Propose improvements to methods, systems, and procedures, and plan operational reorganizations.

• Perform quality reviews and develop management and quality assurance standards.

Cross-Functional Support and Communication:

• Collaborate with Operations, Supply Chain, and Logistics teams, and oversee the development of a communication strategy.

• Ensure knowledge management and provide high-quality customer service.

YOU WILL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF YOU HAVE THE FOLLOWING SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in International Business, Logistics, Law, Business Administration, or a related field.

• Minimum of 7-8 years of experience in customs classification and cross-border trade compliance, including proven experience in team management or supervision.

• Required experience in an industrial environment, ideally in the automotive and trucking industry.

Technical Skills and Specializations:

• Area of specialization: Customs services, process improvement, and business management.

• Strong command of the Harmonized System (HS) nomenclature and customs regulations.

• Proficiency with IT tools: Management Information Systems (MIS / Databases), MS Excel, MS Office, and SAP (FI/CO, HR, MM, OT, SD modules).

Personal and Leadership Skills:

• Strong skills in personnel management, coaching, and team leadership.

Linguistic Requirements:

• Fluency in English. Mastery of English is essential for this position, as the incumbent will represent the company and interact daily with U.S. customs authorities, international business partners, and U.S.-based teams.

• Proficiency in Spanish is an asset.

Salary Range: $99,800 to $162,300 per year

Hours: 37.5 hours / week

Start Date: As soon as possible
