Job Summary

Windsor Salt is seeking a 309A or 442A Red Seal/Journeyperson Electrician to join the maintenance team at the Ojibway Mine. This individual will be responsible for industrial electrical installations and repairs required to electrical components, panels, and substations throughout the facility. Employees may be assigned to positions on surface (in the mill or maintenance shop) or underground (in the mine) and will be expected to work all three shifts (days/afternoons/midnights) and work overtime as required.

• Please note that candidates will be required to successfully complete a background check and medical/audio exam upon offer acceptance. Windsor Salt is a unionized facility (Unifor Local 1959); successful candidates will be required to join the union upon commencement of employment.

Duties And Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, technical diagrams, and panel schedules.
• Install and maintain wiring, control systems, lighting systems, and electrical fixtures.
• Inspect electrical components such as transformers, circuit breakers, and panels.
• Diagnose electrical problems using testing devices.
• Repair or replace wiring, equipment, or fixtures using hand and power tools.
• Direct or train workers on electrical installation and maintenance tasks.
• Complete work orders and document completed tasks.

Required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Ontario College of Skilled Trades certified electrician required (442A or 309A)
• G.E.D. or high school diploma
• Minimum 2 years of industrial electrical experience
• Familiarity with Lock Out/Tag Out Policy and Procedures
• Thorough knowledge of heavy industrial electrical maintenance practices
• Proficient in troubleshooting 3-phase 4160V motor control centers, maintenance, and repair
• Proficient in 480V 3-phase and 4160V 3-phase mine power feeder circuits with ground monitors
• Proficient in reading schematics and calculating wire size and motor horsepower requirements for new installations
• Able to use schematics and ladder logic to troubleshoot PLCs, soft starts, and other types of motor control circuits
• Able to read and understand verbal and written instructions
• Basic computer skills (CAT ET, Windows, SMAG, etc.)

Preferred

• 2 years of mining electrical experience

Work Environment

• Works in an underground mine where temperatures in the work areas range from 78°–100°F. The relative humidity is high in summer and low in winter.
• Works on the surface of the mine where conditions are related to weather outdoors, with varying ranges in temperature and humidity. The environment has a fair amount of noise and dust.
• Some work must be done around machinery and equipment that is in motion, as well as around energized power cables.
• Must be able to walk for long distances over terrain varying from soft to hard, as well as slick and uneven.
• Must be able to sit in operator’s seat for long periods of time while operating machinery and being subject to whole-body vibrations.
• Must be able to work from heights and wear/utilize a full-body harness to perform work as necessary.
• Must be able to operate various machinery by manipulating multiple hand and foot control levers, sometimes simultaneously.
• Must be capable of lifting 50 lbs.
• Must be able to ascend and descend a ladder of at least thirty (30) feet in length.

The starting wage for this role is $49.26 per hour ; increases and premiums are in accordance with the CBA. This posting is for a new position. Windsor Salt does not require Canadian work experience and does not use artificial intelligence (AI) to screen or assess applicants.
