Position: CNC Machinist / Toolmaker
Duration: Approximately 3–4 weeks, with potential extension
Start Date: ASAP – Immediate Opening
Scope of Work
We are seeking an experienced CNC Machinist / Toolmaker for a short-term, on-site manufacturing assignment in Stratford, Ontario, Canada . The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience in CNC machining, machine setup, precision tooling, troubleshooting, and equipment maintenance within a fast-paced industrial manufacturing environment.
This position requires a skilled machinist or toolmaker capable of diagnosing equipment issues, maintaining machining accuracy, supporting production operations, and minimizing equipment downtime. Experience in automotive manufacturing, precision machining, and tooling maintenance is highly preferred.
Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, adjust, and troubleshoot CNC machining equipment to support daily manufacturing and production requirements.
- Perform CNC machine setup, tooling changes, tool adjustments, and machine troubleshooting to maintain production efficiency.
- Conduct tooling repairs, preventive maintenance, and equipment adjustments to maintain optimal machine performance.
- Diagnose and resolve machining defects, equipment malfunctions, dimensional inaccuracies, and quality issues .
- Interpret engineering drawings, mechanical blueprints, machining specifications, and technical documentation to ensure accurate machining operations.
- Utilize precision measuring instruments , including micrometers, calipers, and other inspection tools, to verify dimensional accuracy and product quality.
- Perform tool setup, tooling inspections, and machining process adjustments to maintain consistent manufacturing standards.
- Identify root causes of recurring machining problems and implement corrective actions to reduce machine downtime .
- Support manufacturing process improvements, production efficiency, and continuous improvement initiatives .
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, and engineering personnel to troubleshoot machining and tooling concerns.
Qualifications
- Proven hands-on experience as a CNC Machinist, CNC Setup Machinist, Toolmaker, or CNC Machine Operator with advanced setup and troubleshooting capabilities.
- Strong knowledge of CNC machining operations, machine setup, tooling systems, and machining processes .
- Experience performing tooling maintenance, tool changes, tooling adjustments, and mechanical troubleshooting .
- Ability to diagnose CNC equipment faults, machining defects, and dimensional quality issues .
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, blueprints, and machining specifications .
- Experience using precision measuring tools, micrometers, calipers, and dimensional inspection equipment .
- Strong understanding of machining tolerances, quality control, and precision manufacturing .
- Experience working in an industrial manufacturing or production environment .
- Automotive manufacturing experience is preferred, particularly in high-volume production facilities.
- Ability to work independently, troubleshoot equipment issues, and support urgent production needs.
- Must be legally authorized to work in Canada .
- Must be available for an on-site, short-term assignment in Stratford, Ontario , with an immediate start preferred.
