Position Overview This is a part-time contract position and offers the unique opportunity to be part of an innovative partnership between Community Justice Initiatives and the Upper Fraser Valley School District in providing Restorative Justice circle-based school programming aimed at changing school culture and building community while providing a broad base of conflict resolution and communication skills to youth and staff. The position is Tuesday and Thursday from 2-5:30 pm with additional prep time as needed within 12 hours/wk maximum. Key Requirements
- Access to personal transportation. Gas costs will be subsidized outside of regular work location.
- Excellent public speaking and communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal ethics and accountability.
- Ability to respond confidently and empathetically in unexpected and/or stressful situations.
- Ability to pass a criminal record check.
Key Responsibilities
Program Facilitation and Maintenance
- Modelling restorative practices with staff and students.
- Mediating and facilitating complex school-based dialogues, supporting all participants with follow-up and resources.
- Regular reporting of feedback and program needs to Restorative School Coordinator.
On-going commitment to personal self-care, transparency, and debriefing with volunteer team and Coordinator.
Program Development
- Planning in partnership with classroom teachers and evaluating the restorative classroom program.
- Planning and development of program outlines and activities based on needs of the class, feedback from teachers, and restorative teaching values/goals.
- Gathering of all required resources for program facilitation and activities
Education and Experience
- Knowledge on how to/experience in handling reportable concerns or disclosures
- Educational background in Restorative Justice, Psychology, Youth Work or Education preferred, but not required.
- Experience in gently and effectively addressing behaviours that do not coincide with group safety guidelines.
- Experience and passion in child and youth work.
- Facilitation experience.
- Volunteer work and experience with circle based experiential programs, or healing circles an asset.
Qualifications
- Solid communication skills.
- Strong self-awareness and ability to self-regulate.
- Ability to effectively work in a collaborative partnership role with teachers and children.
- Ability to reflect on and work towards creating more balanced power dynamics.
- Understanding of, and commitment to, restorative justice values and principles.
Job Details and Pay
Hours: Contract Part-time: 2-5:30 pm; 8-10 hours/week until the end of the school year 2025 (during school days)Start Date: Sept 17 (upon completion of provided, paid, 3-day OWNIT training Aug 26-28).

Pay: $21.00-$23.00 per hour
