Purpose Society

Purpose Society

Inspiring Change

Position:         CRCL (Crisis Response, Community Led) Coordinator

Work Site:      40 Begbie St., New Westminster BC

Salary:             $33.00 per hour

Hours:             40 hours/week (flexible hours required to meet operational needs)

Who We Are

Purpose Society is a community-based multi-service organization dedicated to delivering comprehensive programs for children, youth, and families. We focus on enhancing well-being, strengthening family functioning, and promoting personal responsibility through a client-centered approach. Our services are provided in a safe, respectful environment that values diversity and community connection.

The Opportunity

We are seeking a passionate and committed CRCL Coordinator to join our innovative team and make a meaningful difference in our community. The Crisis Response Community Led (CRCL) team offers an alternative to police involvement at mental health crisis calls in New Westminster. The teams offer crisis support services that integrate cultural safety protocols and holistic care options for callers in crisis aged 13 years and older. This program aims to reduce the harms experienced by people who have mental health and addictions challenges as well as Black, Indigenous, racialized, LGBTQ2+ and other marginalized individuals.

As the CRCL Coordinator, you will play a key leadership role in overseeing all program operations, supporting frontline staff, and advancing a model of care rooted in equity, dignity, and community connection. The successful candidate will have a strong understanding of the various barriers to access the healthcare system, knowledge of community resources, and a strong need for advocacy for appropriate services and care.

What You’ll Do

  • Provide day-to-day supervision, direction, guidance, and support to CRCL team members and ensure alignment with program and organizational objectives
  • Oversee all daily operations, including scheduling, staffing coverage, and shift readiness
  • Support hiring, onboarding, and training of new staff, ensuring required competencies are met
  • Contribute to the overall strategic leadership, program vision, and oversight for the CRCL program, ensuring alignment with the Purpose Society’s mission, values, and organizational priorities
  • Contribute to program planning, evaluation, and continuous improvement initiatives
  • Provide crisis intervention, risk and suicide assessments, and de-escalation support
  • Monitor the safety of staff and their practices on a daily basis and initiate crisis management protocols as required
  • Apply trauma-informed, anti-oppressive, and culturally responsive approaches in all interactions
  • Participate in community outreach and liaison with key stakeholders and partners and maintain trusting, respectful and collaborative relationships with clients, families, colleagues, referral sources, service providers and the public
  • Work collaboratively with Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA BC) staff on all facets of the project
  • Prepare and submit monthly and quarterly reports to funders and stakeholders, ensuring accuracy and compliance
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical and non-clinical documentation
  • Provide on-call and after-hours support to the crisis team as required
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Training Requirements

Successful candidates must complete all required training, which consists of multiple full-day sessions. Full participation is a condition of employment for this role. Individuals who are unable to attend and complete the full training program, regardless of employment status (full-time, part-time, or casual), will not be eligible to join the team.

What We Are Looking For

  • University degree in Social Services or equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree is preferred.
  • A minimum of five years of community mental health and addictions experience with a strong knowledge of clinical and crisis assessments and interventions
  • A minimum of three years in a supervisory position
  • Knowledge of the mental health classifications, issues and literature
  • Demonstrated skill in client-centered care, trauma and violence informed practice, skill development and counselling
  • Understanding and knowledge of working with persons with mental health and/or addictions issues as well as an understanding of the intersectionality of systemic barriers and social determinants of health
  • Knowledge of systemic and structural factors that impact Black, Indigenous, racialized and LGBTQ2S+ communities
  • Knowledge of common drugs, their effects, and the toxic drug crisis
  • Advanced overdose recognition and response training
  • Current First Aid and CPR certification
  • NVCI Training
  • Ability to maintain a non-judgmental and non-stigmatizing approach is required
  • Willingness to participate in on the job on-going training and outside training
  • Strong verbal, written communication and problem-solving skills
  • A valid Class 5 driver’s license is required

Why Work With Us

Join our mission-driven organization and help create positive change in people’s lives. By working with us, you’ll be part of a dedicated team that:

  • Provides essential services to vulnerable populations
  • Fosters personal growth and healthy decision-making
  • Contributes to community well-being in the Lower Mainland

Your work will directly support our programs, which are made possible through sufficient government funding. If you are passionate about making a difference and want to be part of a dynamic, values-driven team, the Lower Mainland Purpose Society for Youth and Families is the place for you.
