THE OPPORTUNITY

Our client is an established Canadian manufacturer of custom-engineered heat transfer and process equipment serving the energy and utilities sectors.

They are currently seeking an experienced Process Engineer to join their Calgary-based engineering team. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer with strong experience in thermal process simulation, process design and engineered heat-transfer equipment who wants to be involved throughout the complete project lifecycle.

Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, the successful candidate will contribute to the overall engineering strategy and oversee thermal design activities from the estimating stage through detailed engineering, fabrication and execution.

The role will have a particular focus on thermal process simulation development and optimization, equipment selection and sizing, and the design of thermal process equipment .

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform thermal process simulations and optimization using HTRI, FRNC and other thermal design tools.
• Complete process design calculations including equipment sizing, line sizing and PSV/PRV sizing.
• Validate process simulations used in the design of new thermal equipment.
• Develop and stamp/seal process engineering deliverables including Process Flow Diagrams (PFDs), Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Heat & Material Balances, equipment datasheets and PSV/control valve sizing calculations.
• Read and interpret manufacturing drawings, contracts, technical specifications and applicable design codes.
• Apply relevant standards including ASME Section I, ASME Section VIII Div. 1, B31.1, B31.3, CSA 149.1/3 and API standards.
• Support the registration of pressure vessels, piping and related engineered equipment.
• Review calculations and designs for vendor-supplied equipment to ensure compliance with project specifications.
• Review process calculations and engineering deliverables prepared by other engineers.
• Work closely with Project Managers, Project Engineers, estimating, procurement, quality, drafting and senior management.
• Coordinate and resolve technical and design-related issues across multiple projects.
• Participate throughout the full project lifecycle including quotation, detailed design, fabrication, site installation, commissioning and startup support.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Engineering degree in a related discipline.
• 5–10 years of relevant process engineering experience.
• Registered, or eligible for registration, as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in Alberta, British Columbia and/or Saskatchewan.
• Strong experience with thermal process simulation, process design and equipment sizing.
• Experience with the mechanical design and engineering of process or heat-transfer equipment, piping and related systems.
• Working knowledge of applicable codes and standards including ASME, CSA and API.
• Experience with HTRI, FRNC or comparable thermal/process simulation software would be highly beneficial.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to manage competing priorities and work effectively under tight deadlines.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
• Willingness to travel occasionally to vendor or construction sites.
