The Buddhism, Psychology and Mental Health Program at New College seeks a sessional lecturer from January 1, 2027– May 06, 2027 for the following in-person course:

BPM232H1S – Buddhism and Psychology

An overview of the encounter between Buddhism and psychology over the last century, with cross-disciplinary study of topics such as self, embodiment, impermanence, suffering, liberation, and insight. We explore how (and why) scientists, psychologists, and Buddhist reformers have reinterpreted Buddhism as “science” and how Buddhist contemplative practices such as mindfulness or compassion training have been transformed and promoted by modern psychology.

Estimated TA Support: 165 hours

Lecture: Wednesdays 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM

Sessional Lecturer I:  $9,997.47

Sessional Lecturer I (Long-term):  $10,699.21

Sessional Lecturer II:  $10,699.21

Sessional Lecturer II (Long-term):  $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturer III:  $10,953.96

Sessional Lecturer III (Long-term):  $11,228.90

Note:  This course will be delivered in an in-person format. However, please note that, in keeping with current circumstances, the course delivery may change as determined by the Faculty or the Department

Minimum Qualifications

Completed or nearly completed Ph.D. in an area related to Buddhist Studies, Mindfulness, and/or the intersections between Buddhism and Psychology and/or philosophical theories of mind. Teaching experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

Relevant teaching experience at the university level preferred. 

Responsibilities

Normal duties related to the design and teaching of a university credit course, including preparation and delivery of course content; development, administration and marking of assignments, tests and exams; calculation and submission of grades; and holding regular office hours.
