Mid Canada Mod Centre (MC2) and Avionics Design Services (ADS) joined De Havilland in October 2023, creating additional capacity and expanding our expertise in both avionics design services and upgrades as well as maintenance and modifications.

In October of 2023, De Havilland Aircraft of Canada announced the acquisition of Mid Canada Mod Centre (MC2). Mid Canada Mod Centre is comprised of industry leading experts focused on ensuring commercial, charter, special mission and business aircraft operators are equipped with flight decks that provide safety and efficiency. As a premier Canadian aviation maintenance shop, the team of experts works to define avionics requirements to develop and certify solutions that fit each operator’s individual need.

Position Summary

The Health & Safety Coordinator supports and advances MC2’s occupational health and safety program across maintenance, manufacturing, modification, and support operations. Reporting to the Director of Quality & Safety, the role provides day-to-day leadership in regulatory compliance, hazard prevention, and safety culture development across a growing federally regulated aerospace environment.

This role is based primarily in CYKF with periodic travel to YYZ and other company operating locations as required.

Regulatory and Operational Environment

MC2 operates within a federally regulated aerospace environment that includes:

• Aircraft Maintenance Organization activities under CAR 573.
• Manufacturing activities under CAR 561.
• Occupational health and safety obligations under Canada Labour Code Part II.
• WHMIS and hazardous materials control requirements.

The role supports safe operations across hangars, shops, production, and office environments.

Direct Responsibilities

• Maintain MC2 health and safety policies, procedures, manuals, records, and associated controlled documentation.
• Assist in implementation and continuous improvement of the Hazard Prevention Program.
• Support development of practical safety processes aligned with operational growth.
• Conduct scheduled workplace inspections, identify hazards, verify corrective actions, and monitor housekeeping, floor storage, and chemical handling practices.
• Coordinate incident reporting, investigations, root cause analysis, corrective action follow-up, and associated records.
• Maintain SDS control, WHMIS compliance, hazardous material approvals, and safe chemical storage and handling practices across all departments.
• Monitor PPE requirements, verify proper use, and coordinate replacement or certification as required.
• Coordinate onboarding, recurrent training, safety records, and required programs including WHMIS, fire safety, hearing protection, fall protection, and respiratory protection where applicable.
• Coordinate Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings, records, action items, certification requirements, and regulatory compliance.
• Maintain regular floor presence to support supervisors, identify practical improvements, and promote safe work methods during operational changes.
• Support safe implementation of temporary work setups, contractor activities, material storage, and changing floor arrangements during operational expansion.
• Maintain health and safety metrics, prepare reports for leadership, and identify emerging trends or risks requiring attention.
• Coordinate and support company Safety Management System (SMS) regarding H&S incidents/accidents.
• Support audits, emergency preparedness activities, and other assignments directed by the Director of Quality & Safety.

Qualifications

Education & Certification

• Diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or a related discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 5 years progressive health and safety experience in industrial, manufacturing, aviation, or regulated environment.
• Federal workplace experience considered an asset.
• Aerospace or aviation experience considered a strong asset.
