BNI Vanguard Scholars Program Director

$85k - $115k per year
Full-time

BlackNorth Initiative

Job Responsibility:

About us

BlackNorth Initiative is on a mission to close the gaps created by systemic anti-Black racism for Black Canadians—a Canada where systemic anti-Black racism does not exist.

We believe that if corporate Canada can boldly take on the challenge to add gender diversity to Canadian boardrooms and executive suites by declaring policies, setting specific targets, and holding itself accountable, it can do the same work to create better representation for Black Canadians. Together, we are holding major industry leaders accountable to take action and reshape corporate structures that uphold anti-Black systemic racism against Black Canadians.

Position Overview

The Program Director for the BlackNorth Initiative (BNI) Vanguard Scholars Program is a strategic and visionary leader responsible for the successful planning, execution, and oversight of the 6-year program that includes two signature summer experiences (“summer academies”) through intensive university-preparatory courses taught by university professors. This transformative program aims to empower high-achieving Black high school students beginning in Grade 11, equipping them with essential skills, tools and resources to apply to top-tier Canadian Post-Secondary Institutions, including universities, colleges, polytechnics, and CEGEPs in Quebec. It is essential that we ensure clear inclusion of college-bound students, recognizing the diverse trajectories of Black learners across Canada. The Program Director will play a pivotal role in ensuring the BNI Vanguard Scholars Program launch in Canada at BlackNorth Initiative is a success, through effective leadership, program development, and stakeholder engagement that reflects Canada's diversity and regional educational contexts.

Modeled after Thrive Scholars in the USA, the inaugural launch of the BNI Vanguard Scholars Program will provide high-achieving Black students from underserved communities with the opportunities they need to thrive at top-tier Canadian Post-Secondary Institutions and in meaningful careers.
