A full-time Research Coordinator is needed to work on the project titled “Deriving Normative 24- hour Ambulatory Blood Pressure Monitoring Data Among South Asian Children (ASHA)”. This study is a collaborative project with the Population Health Research Institute. The ASHA study's objective is to establish normal height-sex and normal age and sex-specific reference values of 24- hour ambulatory blood pressure monitoring among South Asian children. In addition, the successful applicant will be involved in other research projects ongoing in the lab.

Job Title : Full-time Junior Research Coordinator

Number of Positions: 1

Starting date : January 30th, 2024

Duration : An ongoing position (termination notice of two weeks), with initial 1.5 year contract

Hours of work :

The position is based on a 40 hour work week to be covered over a 5 day period. At times, the position will require the need to work evenings and weekends. While overtime is not expected, any overtime will be compensated through days off.

The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the research effort in a number of ways.

This will include, but is not limited to:

• Data collection from participants in a clinical setting and on site at schools and places of worship (anthropometry, body fat assessment, physical measures, documentation, ABPM, accelerometer)
• Recruiting potential participants from places of worship and other sites within the South Asian community
• Telephone follow-up assessments with participants pertaining to personal health status and booking appointments
• Building and maintaining positive relations with participants and parents/guardians
• Dealing with administrative tasks associated with the study (scanning and faxing forms, calling for missing information and etc)
• Ensure that projects are executed successfully and completed within time frames to meet research objectives
• Coordinate and implement all aspects of data collection and source documentation for each study to ensure quality and integrity of data
• Ensures study related administrative tasks and correspondence are completed such as the preparation and collection of study and required regulatory documents. Prepares and submits applications for ethical review to the Research Ethics Board (REB) and other REB's, as required, and ensures that all applicable approvals for conducting research in PHC/SFU and other sites are obtained
• Provides direction and leadership to research related staff, including the supervision of students and volunteers, within the scope of the projects, as appropriate.
• Other tasks as may be deemed necessary by the principal investigator

Skills required :

• University degree preferably in health or allied health field
• Fluency in Punjabi and/or Hindi
• Driver's license with reliable car (research related expenses will be reimbursed)
• Experience dealing with people, with emphasis on effective interviewing and communication skills, ability to establish rapport, ability to assess a situation and respond accordingly
• Well organized, attention-to-detail, and ability to handle many tasks concurrently
• Ability to work without supervision
• Professional and mature, in working with participants and handling confidential and sensitive information
• Experience in a research or health setting
• Experience and proficiency in Microsoft Office Applications (word processing, spreadsheet applications, database management)
• The ability to work with other members of the team
