Finance and Office Supervisor

Job Responsibility:

Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced individual to join our Office Administration team. This position is responsible for departmental supervision of the office team and has a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles. The Finance and Office Supervisor administers bookkeeping and accounting for Mouat's Trading Co. and Salt Spring Island Trading Co, while supporting the daily operations of our three retail businesses. We are looking for someone available up to 5 days per week with potential for hours to range 30-37.5/week depending on candidate. The ideal candidate has a strong background in accounting and experience managing a team; however, we're flexible on the management skills for the right accounting background. Please note this is an in person position on Salt Spring Island.

Responsibilities:

• Train office staff and provide coaching
• Develop weekly staff schedules managing time off requests and staff availability
• Manage accounts payables
• Manage commercial tenant rent payments
• Prepare financial statements
• Prepare documentation for year-end reporting
• Process payroll via PayWorks, tracking sick and vacation time
• Manage GST, PST, Employee Health Tax, corporate tax, Worksafe BC and any other regulatory requirements
• Process and reconcile daily sales from Home Hardware, Mouat's Clothing and Old Salty
• Prepare bank deposits and coin orders
• Maintain sales tracking documents including daily sales, weekly budgets, etc.
• Manage Lottery department
• Administer Employee benefits program
• Administer new employee paperwork
• Provide customer service
• Develop office processes and procedures
• Uphold Mouat's policies and procedures

Skills and Requirements

• College Diploma with a focus on accounting, business or office management
• Minimum 5 years' in accounting and/or administration
• Excellent people management skills
• Ability to coach, train and mentor staff
• Maintains a collaborative and positive work environment
• Knowledge of computer systems (Sage, MS Office Suite, Payworks as asset)
• Understanding of retail operations
• Superior customer service skills
• Attention to detail and multi-tasking skills
• Adaptable and flexible to changing priorities
• Honest, and trustworthy
