BBA has a new opportunity for a Junior Advisor as part of our Power Advisory and Asset Management (PAAM) team. BBA’s PAAM team is an advanced multidisciplinary group of engineers, data scientists, economists, mathematicians, statisticians, policy-makers and advisors who are collectively building the next generation of decision-making analytics and platforms to help organizations make their asset infrastructure more resilient in the face of extreme weather, growing capacity needs and the integration of new technologies (e.g., electric vehicles, renewables, data centres). Our work supports a variety of organizations, including electric GT&D utilities, independent power producers and commercial customers, to avoid potential risks by taking the right actions, with the right assets, at the right time.

This new opportunity will involve a wide range of challenging projects in the utility and power sector, along with exposure to the mining and industrial sectors.

• Help deliver decision-making asset analytics, including advanced asset condition assessment and monitoring, risk-based asset management frameworks, root cause analysis, failure analysis and probabilistic analytics
• Support the delivery of top-down and bottom-up load forecasting for power utilities, large industrial customers and independent power producers
• Develop asset analytics dashboards, visualizations, digital twins and geospatial visual environments to convey key decision-making messages to asset players
• Support the development of key performance indicators, metrics and measures to enhance productivity, operations and risk management
• Support the delivery of regulatory reporting deliverables, including long-term and short-term capital and maintenance investment plans as part of electricity rate filing applications
• Support the development of business case evaluation (BCE) frameworks to justify and prioritize key investments
• Perform end-to-end data analytics, including data collection, transformation, analysis, and visualization
• Support the development of new decision-making technologies leveraging advanced machine learning, deep learning and artificial intelligence techniques
• Engage in hands-on consulting work, including data analysis, research, stakeholder interviews and preparation of final deliverables
• Delivery of engagement and contribution (E&C) programs to present key findings from major projects as part of knowledge sharing, client engagement and networking activities

Overview of certifications and job requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, economics, data science or business or similar post-secondary degree
• 0 to 3 years of experience
• Knowledge of statistical analyses, programming languages (i.e., Python, SQL, R) and machine learning
• Strong communication skills (spoken and written)
• Strong team-building and leadership skills
• Strong time management and project management skills
• Asset: knowledge of other utility and energy markets
• Asset: knowledge of the development of asset analytics and load forecasts related to energy needs

Other assets (familiarity with):

• Day-to-day operational tools, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
• Data processing and data analytics products (Alteryx, Tableau, Power BI, etc.)
• Asset investment planning and asset performance software (Copperleaf C55, etc.)
• Enterprise asset management systems and systems of record and analytics available on the market (SAP, Maximo, etc.)
• Electrical utilities and regulatory practices, both domestic and international, as well as electrical assets (poles, wires, transformers, switches, etc.)
• Technologies and systems used by power system operators (SCADA, metering management, GIS, CAD)
