MLTC was created by nine First Nations located in north-west Saskatchewan who have constitutionally recognized aboriginal rights and Treaty Rights under Treaties #6, #8 and #10. The primary purpose of MLTC is to serve those First Nations in their aspirations for cultural, economic and political autonomy. As a private sector employer engaged primarily in promoting and serving the interests of the member First Nations, MLTC asserts its right to provide preferential treatment to First Nations people, giving them priority in decisions on employment matters such as hiring, and this can extend to measures such as opening competitions only to First Nations people.

The Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) is seeking a Registered Dietitian to fill one (1) full time, term position and one (1) full time permanent position. This position works as a core member with the Community Health Programs. The Community Dietitian will work with a colleague Dietitian to promote protect and support nutritional health with MLTC First Nation members and staff through health promotion, education, primary and secondary prevention.

DUTIES

· The Community Dietitian will be a member of the Dietitian Team and work closely with Meadow Lake First Nation members & staff, and the MLTC staff to provide up to date, accurate nutrition education information/in-service/workshops and resources.

· To plan, deliver and evaluate community nutrition programs for members of the 9 MLFN's with a focus on prenatal health, diabetes and other chronic disease prevention, school nutrition and food security.

· To provide dietary counselling and current clinical nutrition information and education for the MLFN's membership living on Reserves.

· To ensure delivery of nutrition services and program delivery.

· Be expected to take a lead role in promoting nutrition related activities in all program areas and act as a resource for First Nation and MLTC staff.

  • Carry out program planning, evaluation and program reporting, including health plans within the necessary time frames.

· To support and facilitate chronic disease program management, prevention and education including nutrition support, screening assessments, documentation.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum:

  • Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and an approved Dietetic Internship, or equivalent.
  • Currently registered with Saskatchewan Dietetic Association and meeting all requirements of the Continuing Competence program in addition to being registered with the association.

Preferred:

  • Community Nutrition Residency is an asset
  • Certified Diabetes Educator is encouraged
  • Knowledge and understanding of MLTC and First Nation Culture and traditions, and/or a willingness to learn.
  • Able to understand/speak Cree and/or Dene is considered a valuable asset.

Other:

  • Demonstrate a high level of confidentiality, personal and professional integrity.
  • A self-starter with the ability to initiate and carry out innovative programs with minimal supervision
  • Self-directed, flexible and dependable with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Experience with successful program planning and evaluation, and primary prevention.
  • Ability to teach effectively in group and individual situations.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office computer programs and Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Valid Driver's License and willingness to travel extensively.
