The Opportunity: Project Communications Lead

Three-year term, full-time and based in Whitehorse, Dawson City, Mayo, or Faro. Option to be remote within the Yukon for the right candidate.

This is a unique opportunity to support Yukon Energy’s largest capital investment program to date — representing more than a billion dollars in infrastructure investments over the next ten years. The projects and assets you help engage communities on are critical to the Yukon’s energy future, supporting reliable power for Yukoners and communities for generations to come.

As part of a small, high-performing team, your work will be dynamic, fast-paced, and meaningful. One day you may be coordinating a community meeting for a major infrastructure project; the next, you could be developing digital content, responding to public questions on social media, or contributing creative ideas to large-scale communications campaigns that help shape public understanding and support for transformational projects across the Yukon.

What will you do:  As a member of the Community Relations team, you will:

• Develop and implement communications and engagement strategies that support Yukon Energy's capital projects and community relations objectives.
• Build and maintain relationships with communities, First Nations governments, stakeholders, and the public by sharing project information and supporting meaningful engagement opportunities.
• Gather, assess, and communicate community and stakeholder feedback, working collaboratively with project teams to support informed project planning and delivery.
• Create and coordinate a variety of communications materials, public outreach activities, and digital content to increase awareness and understanding of Yukon Energy's projects and initiatives.

What you need to succeed

• A degree or diploma in communications, journalism, public relations, or a related field.
• 5+ years of experience in marketing and communications.
• A high level of interpersonal communication skills.
• Ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional colleagues.
• Skillful communication practitioner with excellent editorial and listening skills and the ability to conceptualize, structure and write compelling copies for brochures, presentations, online, newspaper and broadcast media, and corporate reports.
• Well-developed project management skills to equip working under tight deadlines while managing multiple customer demands and priorities.
• Broad knowledge of print, radio, video, and online technologies and skilled in the use of Windows based software, communication, and presentation software such as SharePoint.
• A comprehensive understanding of local, regional, and northern political and social economic conditions and values.
• A strong understanding of local First Nations world views and cultural practices.
• Ability to work and maintain accuracy under pressure and to meet critical deadlines.
• High attention to detail and well organized.
• Experience working on large infrastructure projects is an asset.
• A valid class 5 driver’s licence.
