OUR OPPORTUNITY

The Govan Brown Toronto Building Group team is growing and we're looking for an Senior Estimator with over 8 years of experience leading estimates on major, complex ground up and repositioning projects in the industrial, commercial, and institutional sector. This is an exciting opportunity to leverage your existing relationships with local sub-trades and your knowledge of local market conditions to contribute to the company’s success.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Estimate and support pre-construction for specified projects within the GB Building Group.
• Prepare detailed estimates (conceptual, schematic, design development, construction) and/ or prepare accurate preliminary construction budgets to include subcontractor scopes, bids analysis.
• Ensure that the estimates, including general conditions, are accurate, complete and reflect the actual requirements of the project.
• Provide clients with package of pricing, scope letters, schedule and lead times; communicate quotes and budget status of the project with subcontractors, clients and team members.
• Confirm actual site conditions of projects by conducting site surveys and in collaboration with project team make recommendations to the client and design members on best approach and advising on constructability issues during preconstruction.
• Build and maintain positive working relationships with clients, designers, architectural, structural, civil, and MEP engineers, consultants, subcontractors, vendors and other project team members.
• Play a key role in securing new work by participating in RFP responses, proposals and presentations.
• Represent Govan Brown at all times in a professional manner that is consistent with the company’s values, including maintaining current project-specific knowledge, being prepared for project meetings, proactively communicating with the project team, and meeting deadlines and commitments.
• Keep current on changes in trends in methods of construction and materials, construction costs, wage rates, fringes and working rules.

WHAT YOU BRING

• Post-secondary degree/diploma in engineering, construction management, architecture, or related field.
• 8+ years experience of demonstrated success in independently estimating major, complex ground up and repositioning projects in the ICI sector.
• Knowledge of construction management, lump sum and design build contracts.
• Strong relationships with local sub-trades and knowledge of local market conditions.
• Ability to pull apart drawings and technical specs with a solid understanding of trade scope of work.
• Relationship savvy and interpersonal skills to demand the respect of all stakeholders.
• Ability to effectively manage multiple priorities and meet competing deadlines.
• Proficiency in computerized estimating and quantity take-off programs, as well as Microsoft Office programs, particularly Excel.

YOUR ESTIMATED SALARY

• This role offers an annual salary between $110,000 - $150,000 depending on experience and qualifications, with final compensation thoughtfully tailored in the offer stage.

YOUR WORKING CONDITIONS AND ENVIRONMENT

• Primary work location is 108 Vine Avenue, Toronto with potential for work-related travel.
• Exposure to construction work site environment in all seasons.
• On-site and in-office. This is not a hybrid or remote role.
