Senior Advisor Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Toronto | Hybrid work arrangement (approx. 2 days/week in office) Salary: $115,469 to $135,081+ OMERS pension + benefits AMO represents Ontario’s 444 municipal governments. We are seeking a talented and experienced economist and policy professional to lead the research, analysis, and advocacy efforts that advance municipal priorities. As a Senior Advisor, you will be a subject matter expert responsible for providing strategic advice, driving research, analysis and policy development, and leading government relations initiatives. Working in fast-paced, collaborative and dynamic environment, you will help shape the public conversation about municipalities and influence provincial policy to benefit people and communities across Ontario. Key responsibilities: Develop and execute advocacy strategies to advance municipal interests based on AMO’s Board of Directors direction and senior management strategic goals. Serve as the lead economist and advisor for assigned policy portfolios, identifying emerging issues and developing evidence-based positions. Lead major policy and research initiatives and AMO Task Forces, driving consensus among municipal leaders and external stakeholders. Undertake complex research, economic and financial analysis to assess the impact of provincial/federal policies on the municipal sector, translating data into persuasive narrative, insights and advocacy messaging. Prepare briefing notes, policy papers, and presentations for the AMO Board of Directors, Executive Leadership, and government officials. Build and manage productive and strategic relationships with sectoral and industry partners and senior levels of government. What you bring: Experience: Minimum of 7 years of progressively responsible experience leading projects as a policy maker combined with hands-on qualitative and quantitative research, applied economics, financial or statistical analysis, and/or government relations. Tenure with municipal or provincial governments is an asset. Education: An advanced university degree in economics, finance, business or related discipline including political science, public policy/administration or land-use planning. A combination of work experience in policy, research, and economic analysis functions will be considered with an undergraduate degree in the aforementioned fields of study. Knowledge: Strong applied knowledge or expertise in political economy, the political landscape in Ontario and across all three levels of government, the machine of government including legislative and regulatory processes, behavioural economics, working with big data, technology and innovation including artificial intelligence tools. Communication: Exceptional written and oral communication skills with the ability to craft compelling narrative and stories, and distill technical information for a non technical decision-making audience and the general public.
