Insurance Claims Liability Specialist

Role Summary

The Insurance Claims & Liability Specialist manages insurance claims and supports risk management initiatives across Modern Niagara's operations. This role works closely with business units, insurance brokers, insurers, adjusters, and legal partners to facilitate claims resolution, support insurance program administration, identify emerging risks, and promote best practices that help protect the organization.

• Strengthen risk management practices through reporting, education, and trend analysis.


• Support insurance program administration and renewal activities.


• Foster strong relationships with insurers, brokers, adjusters, legal professionals, and internal stakeholders.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Manage the day-to-day administration and adjustment of insurance claims, working with business units to obtain supporting documentation and facilitate timely resolution.


• Coordinate with insurance brokers, insurers, adjusters, legal professionals, and internal stakeholders throughout the claims process.


• Monitor and track claims activity, claim settlements, recoveries, and receipt of insurance funds.


• Follow up on outstanding documentation and information requests to support efficient claims handling.


• Maintain accurate claim files, records, documentation, and supporting correspondence.


• Prepare regular claims status reports, loss analyses, and trend reports for operational leaders and business stakeholders.


• Assist with the collection and preparation of underwriting information required for insurance renewals.


• Support risk management initiatives through training, education, and awareness programs for operational leadership teams.


• Identify claim trends, recurring issues, and opportunities for risk reduction and continuous improvement.


• Provide recommendations to support loss prevention and risk mitigation efforts across the organization.


• Assist with insurance program administration and support other risk management activities as required.

Must Haves:

• Experience managing commercial insurance claims, claims administration, risk management, insurance brokerage, underwriting, or a related field.


• Strong understanding of commercial insurance products with particular emphasis on Commercial General Liability (CGL) and property-related exposures.


• Experience working with insurers, brokers, adjusters, legal professionals, and internal stakeholders.


• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines simultaneously.


• Excellent attention to detail and documentation practices.


• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and investigative skills.


• Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.


• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.


• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing competing priorities.


• Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.

Nice to Haves:

• Post-secondary diploma or degree in Business Administration, Risk Management, Insurance, or a related discipline.


• Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP), Canadian Risk Management (CRM), or progress toward a professional designation.


• Experience within the construction, engineering, or contracting industries.


• Knowledge of commercial property and casualty insurance programs, including:




• Commercial General Liability (CGL)


• Builders Risk


• Wrap-Up Liability


• Property Insurance


• Familiarity with additional commercial insurance coverages such as Directors & Officers (D&O), Errors & Omissions (E&O), Automobile, Environmental, and Cyber insurance.


• Experience supporting insurance renewals, underwriting submissions, and risk analysis activities.


• Experience developing claims reporting, trend analysis, and loss prevention recommendations.

This is a new position. Expected annual compensation; $90,000 - $105,000.
