Reporting to the Director of Inclusive Employment, the Job Developer plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between job seekers with a disability and potential employers. This role is responsible for engaging with employers, promoting inclusive hiring practices, and connecting qualified candidates with job opportunities. The Job Developer assesses workplace readiness, provides education, and resources, and builds lasting relationships with employers to support the long-term success of both job seekers and businesses.
Key Responsibilities:
- Establish, cultivate, and nurture working relationships and partnerships with employers;
- Emphasize the benefits of working collaboratively with a Job Developer and participating in a supported employment environment;
- Collaborate with employers to evaluate and enhance their inclusive practices, when necessary;
- Present a compelling business case for hiring individuals with a disability;
- Demonstrate how job customization (job carving), modification and accommodations can lead to higher returns on investment and business growth.
- Empower employers to meet their labour needs by connecting them with a diverse pool of qualified candidates;
- Conduct on-site workplace assessments to identify specific employment needs;
- Provide strategies and best practices for hiring and retaining persons with a disability;
- Offer training resources on technologies that enhance workplace accessibility;
- Provide disability awareness training resources.
Qualifications:
- Bilingualism (French & English) is considered mandatory;
- Post-secondary education in a related field (e.g. Human Resources, Social Services, Disability Studies, Education, Business) or equivalent experience (i.e. lived experience);
- Commitment to full inclusion for persons with a disability, including the right to employment and economic participation in the community;
- Experience in building and maintaining positive relationships with employers;
- Experience in employment equity, diversity, and inclusion or experience in a related field;
- Knowledge of issues and barriers faced by people with an intellectual disability or on the autism spectrum in accessing the labor market is a must;
- Strong knowledge of local labor market issues and trends;
- Strong knowledge of the various local community-based employment organizations and/or programs;
- Excellent presentation, facilitation, and public speaking skills;
- Proficiency in MS Office Applications and client relationship management software;
- Aptitude for learning new online systems and tools;
- The ability to travel and provide own transportation.
