Executive Director / Canadian Music Centre in Quebec

The Canadian Music Centre in Quebec (CMC Quebec) is seeking an Executive Director to lead the organization and actively contribute to its development and outreach.

Job Description

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Executive Director will be responsible for the management and development of CMC Quebec, working closely with their team, member composers, partners, and the various CMC offices across Canada.

Main Responsibilities

• Direct and oversee all administrative activities of the organization;

• Work closely with the reprographics workshop staff, the communications officer, the administrative assistant, and other team members;

• Collaborate with the board of directors to articulate and implement the organization's vision, mission, and objectives;

• Ensure financial management, including budget planning, forecasting, and operating and project budgets;

• Lead and support grant applications and fundraising efforts;

• Maintain and develop relationships with the CMC Québec community and with national and international arts organizations;

• Maintain relationships with the various CMC offices in Canada and with the national CMC in Toronto;

• Collaborate with composer members of CMC Québec in the promotion and dissemination of their music;

• Oversee ongoing projects involving a major website redesign and metadata restructuring;

• Manage the relationship with the landlord, the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts;

• Oversee the activities of the Espace Kendergi concert hall, including concerts, recitals, and lectures;

• Manage the rental of the hall, the music library, and the archives;

• Recruit and manage additional contract staff as needed;

• Represent composers and CMC Québec at concerts and cultural events in Montreal and elsewhere in Quebec, which may occasionally require evening, weekend, or daytime work holidays.

Required Skills

The ideal candidate possesses:

• Training in cultural management or equivalent experience;

• At least five years of management experience in the cultural sector;

• A good knowledge of the music industry;

• Strong knowledge of cultural and financial management, particularly in the non-profit cultural sector;

• Excellent command of French and advanced knowledge of English;

• Strong communication skills;

• The ability to lead a team of three to five people;

• Excellent interpersonal skills and a good team spirit;

• The ability to work effectively under pressure;

• Proficiency in digital tools, including the Office suite, WordPress, and the suite Adobe, FileMaker, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram, and Google Workspace;

• A commitment to a culture of inclusion and diversity;

• The ability to combine imagination and boldness with a pragmatic approach to decision-making.

Assets

• Knowledge of Quebec composers and their communities in Canada and abroad;

• Enthusiasm for musical creation;

• Interest in web development and a good general understanding of its various components.

Conditions

This is a permanent, full-time position of 35 hours per week, working on-site.

Salary will be determined based on the experience and skills of the successful candidate.

CMC Quebec also offers group insurance and the possibility to contribute to the employer's RRSP after six months of full-time work.
