Director of Human Resources and Information Technology

Full-Time Permanent Position

Location – Kenora, ON

POSITION SUMMARY

Anishinaabe Abinoojii Family Services is seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Human Resources and IT to provide leadership and oversight for the Agency’s human resources and information technology functions.

Reporting to the Executive Director , the Director of Human Resources and Information Technology works closely with Senior Management to support organizational effectiveness, workforce planning, HR compliance, employee relations, information systems, technology integration, and data security. This position ensures that HR and IT systems, practices, and services support the Agency’s mission, operational needs, and service delivery priorities.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership, supervision, and support to Human Resources and Information Technology staff.
  • Ensure HR and IT practices align with Agency policies, procedures, First Nation mandates, applicable legislation, and organizational standards.
  • Support workforce planning, recruitment, performance management, professional development, employee relations, and HR policy implementation.
  • Provide guidance on HR matters including staffing, compensation changes, discipline, leaves of absence, accommodations, and terminations.
  • Oversee HR systems, employee records, personnel documentation, and confidentiality of HR-related information.
  • Support the implementation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of HRIS and IT systems, including ADP Workforce Now, Microsoft Office Suite, and other agency systems.
  • Oversee IT planning, system implementation, technology integration, software/hardware needs, and user support processes.
  • Work with IT staff to ensure technology systems support operational efficiency, service delivery, data protection, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Manage vendor relationships related to HR and IT systems, including contracts, system support, and service delivery.
  • Support training and communication strategies to ensure staff understand and effectively use HR and IT systems.
  • Prepare reports, recommendations, and updates for the Executive Director and Senior Management as required.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum four (4) years of experience in human resources management as a Director, including supervision of staff, preferably in a non-profit or social service organization.
  • A combination of education, skills, and experience may be considered.
  • CHRE, CHRL, or related professional HR designation is preferred.
  • Management and administrative experience in a social service agency setting.
  • Strong knowledge of human resources management, employment legislation, HR policy development, employee relations, performance management, and workforce planning.
  • Working knowledge of IT systems, HRIS platforms, technology integration, vendor coordination, data security, and system implementation.
  • Proven ability to translate legislation and organizational requirements into practical policies, procedures, and workplace practices.
  • Knowledge of the Child, Youth and Family Services Act, Ontario Child Protection Standards, Customary Care, and First Nation service delivery principles.
  • Knowledge of Treaty #3 territory, First Nation communities, local customs, traditions, and external service agencies.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organization, problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
  • Experience using Microsoft Office Suite, Dayforce HCM, ADP Workforce Now, and related HR/IT systems.
  • Ability to manage confidential information with discretion and professionalism.
  • Ability to work flexible hours and travel as required.
  • Valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence and Driver’s Abstract required.
  • Clear Vulnerable Sector Check required.
  • Ability to speak Anishinaabemowin is preferred and considered a definite asset.

WORKING CONDITIONS

The work will primarily be performed in a typical office environment. The position requires extended periods of sitting and computer work, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. Travel to First Nation communities and flexibility in working hours may be required to meet operational, HR, and IT needs.

Salary Range: $115,334.46 - $141,450

Benefits: AAFS offers 5 weeks of Vacation, Extended Health, Dental, AD&D, and Group Life benefits as well as participation in the agency pension program in accordance with organizational policy.
