Position Summary:
We are hiring experienced Pipelayers and Topmen to join our civil construction crews working on water, sewer, and underground utility projects in Whitehorse and surrounding areas. These are hands-on field roles focused on quality installation, safety, and teamwork.
Key Responsibilities:
Pipelayer Responsibilities
- Install, align, and join water, sewer, and utility piping to line and grade
- Prepare trenches, bedding, and work areas to project specifications
- Ensure proper jointing and sealing (gaskets, fusion, etc.)
- Work safely in trenches, manholes, and confined spaces
- Backfill and compact around installed pipe
- Read and follow drawings and utility locates
- Communicate with the Foreman and crew to maintain productivity and quality
Topman Responsibilities
- Oversee pipe installation in the trench to ensure grade, alignment, and quality
- Inspect materials and installation for compliance with drawings and specifications
- Perform grade and alignment checks using pipe laser or transit
- Document layout shots, redline changes, and as-built information
- Direct and signal equipment operators during excavation and installation
- Mentor crew members on proper installation techniques and safe work practices
- Troubleshoot field issues and provide practical solutions
Requirements:
- Prior Pipelayer or Topman experience, with preference given to candidates with sewer and water experience
- Proficient in written and verbal English, with the ability to provide clear direction to crew members
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings
- Physically capable of performing manual labor in an outdoor environment
- Strong communication skills and team-focused attitude
