Digital Skills Tutor (Volunteer)

Role Overview
Volunteer Digital Skills Tutors support adults in developing the technology skills they need for everyday life, employment, education, and community participation. Tutors work one-on-one or in small groups to help learners build confidence using computers, smartphones, tablets, email, online services, and other digital tools.
Responsibilities
Meet with an assigned learner on a regular schedule (typically once or twice per week).
Support learners in developing practical digital skills based on their individual goals and needs.
Plan and deliver tutoring sessions that are engaging, learner-centered, and appropriate to the learner’s skill level.
Encourage learner confidence, independence, and problem-solving skills.
Experience and Skills
Comfortable using computers, smartphones, tablets, and common digital applications.
Strong digital literacy skills, including internet navigation, email, online communication, and basic troubleshooting.
Patience and the ability to explain technology concepts in a clear and supportive manner.
Strong problem-solving skills and a willingness to adapt to individual learner needs.
Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office or similar programs is an asset.
Previous experience teaching, tutoring, mentoring, training, or providing technical support is an asset but not required.
Estimated Time Commitment
This is a flexible volunteer opportunity designed to fit around your existing schedule. Most Digital Skills Tutors meet with their learner for 1–2 hours per week, with the timing and frequency arranged collaboratively between the tutor and learner. Volunteers are encouraged to make a regular commitment to support learner progress, but Yukon Learn understands that schedules change and works with volunteers to create a manageable arrangement. Whether you have a few hours each week or want to share your skills on a more flexible basis, your support can make a meaningful difference!

Volunteering as a Digital Skills Tutor is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference by helping adults gain confidence and independence with technology. Volunteers receive ongoing support from Yukon Learn staff, and access to resources and materials to support their tutoring sessions. Yukon Learn values the contributions of its volunteers through volunteer recognition events and reference letters upon request.
