Nanny Wanted - Looking For Sunday Afternoon Respite Support For Non Verbal Autistic Adolescent

Seeking a reliable, patient and energetic support worker to provide one-on-one respite care for a 12-year-old non-verbal autistic child in Halifax (with care provided in the family home which is located in the Dal/SMU area). Hours: Sundays, 2:00–7:00 p.m. The role is focused on providing an active and enjoyable afternoon, including community outings such as swimming at a local pool, walks in the park, biking or other recreational activities. Responsibilities include:

• Close supervision and support in the community
• Supporting communication, sensory needs and emotional regulation
• Preparing and providing a simple meal/snack
• Assisting with bathing, toileting and basic personal care
• Maintaining a calm, predictable routine and ensuring safety

Experience working with autistic children, developmental disabilities, respite care is ideal but not essential if the candidate is genuinely interested in learning, creative in how they engage children, and looking for practical hands-on experience in disability, child development, education, psychology, social work or related fields. Training and guidance on the child’s routines and support strategies will be provided. The ideal candidate is dependable, active, patient, observant and comfortable working independently.
