With a staff of 14,000, the TCDSB is a dynamic school board and is accepting applications for the position of Indigenous Resource Teacher (Secondary).

POSITION SUMMARY

The Toronto Catholic District School Board invites applications for the role of Indigenous Education Resource Teacher (Secondary) to lead curriculum implementation and support systemic integration of Indigenous perspectives across Grades 9-12. This leadership position supports the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action , United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (UNDRIP) , and the TCDSB's Indigenous Education Framework. Reporting to the Head of Indigenous Affairs and supported by the Superintendent of Equity, the successful candidate will collaborate with educators to embed Indigenous knowledge systems in all secondary disciplines and support meaningful Indigenous student success initiatives.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • Self-identification as First Nation, Inuit, or Métis is strongly encouraged.
  • Ontario College of Teachers certification (Intermediate/Senior preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of successful secondary teaching experience.
  • Completion of Indigenous-focused AQ, ABQ, or post-secondary coursework.
  • Experience working with Indigenous students, families, communities, and Elders.
  • Deep understanding of Indigenous cultures, histories, and ways of knowing.
  • Knowledge of FNMI Policy Framework, TRC, UNDRIP, and Ministry curriculum expectations.
  • Digital fluency and experience with instructional planning and data-informed practices.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Co-plan curriculum with secondary teachers and the Indigenous Education Department to embed Indigenous knowledge into all subject areas.
  • Lead school implementation of Indigenous pedagogies, culturally responsive instruction, and land-based learning.
  • Support the application of Universal Design for Learning, digital tools, and differentiated assessment through Indigenous education.
  • Build capacity through professional development sessions and collaborative inquiry on Indigenous education and anti-racism.
  • Work with school teams to interpret Indigenous education and implement School Improvement and Equity Plan (SIEP) goals.
  • Provide cultural support and guidance for Indigenous students and staff, promoting inclusive and safe learning environments.
  • Represent Indigenous Education in system-wide events and coordinate with the department to support Indigenous-focused activities.
  • Engage with Indigenous community partners, Elders, and Knowledge Keepers to ensure culturally grounded practices.
  • Support the Indigenous Education Framework and Equity Action Plan.
  • Required travel to multiple locations.

INTERVIEW CRITERIA

  • Indigenous educational leadership in a secondary school setting.
  • Completion of Indigenous-focused AQ, ABQ, or post-secondary coursework.
  • Strong oral/written communication skills and digital literacy.
  • Strong team collaboration, organizational, and facilitation skills.
  • Positive recommendation of current Principal/Superordinate or the immediate past Principal if within the last two years
  • Digital portfolio (10 minutes, live) demonstrating commitment to Indigenous education.
