Senior Design Engineer (Mechanical Engineering)
Job Overview
- We are seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the development of innovative, high-performance mechanical products from concept through to production. This role is focused on driving new product innovation, optimizing performance, and leading engineering execution within a fast-paced product development environment.
- The successful candidate will play a key role in new product introductions (NPI), design validation, and cross-functional collaboration with internal teams and global manufacturing partners.
Key Responsibilities
Product Design & Development
- Lead design and development of new products from concept to production launch
- Drive innovation and optimize product performance and reliability
- Create engineering drawings and release designs for vendor review
- Evaluate prototypes and implement design improvements based on testing feedback
Engineering & Analysis
- Perform engineering calculations, tolerance stack-ups, and FEA analysis
- Conduct material selection and optimization (metals, alloys, composites, plastics)
- Analyze lifecycle testing results and implement design or process improvements
- Perform cost-down analysis and BOM optimization
Manufacturing & Vendor Collaboration
- Work closely with global suppliers and manufacturers to ensure design intent is met
- Support tooling design and manufacturing validation
- Evaluate production samples for quality and performance compliance
- Build strong relationships with external vendors to improve execution efficiency
Leadership & Process Improvement
- Review and approve engineering work from team members
- Support and improve stage-gate product development processes
- Contribute to internal engineering standards and product development systems
- Develop and improve testing equipment and validation methods
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (Master's preferred)
- 7-10+ years of mechanical engineering experience in product development
- Strong experience bringing products from concept to market
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks or OnShape preferred)
- Strong understanding of materials science and mechanical design principles
- Experience with manufacturing processes and product optimization
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and RCA (root cause analysis) skills
- Excellent communication skills with ability to work across technical and non-technical teams
- Experience with high-performance consumer or industrial products preferred
