Director of Finance

Position Summary

This is a senior executive role suited to a finance leader who understands the realities of not-for-profit, funded, regulated long term care care environments. The successful candidate will bring the discipline of an Executive Director Finance, the systems thinking of an enterprise leader, and the collaborative instincts required to support a mission-driven organization committed to making every day matter for the people it serves.

The Executive Director Finance will be expected to strengthen the financial infrastructure during a period of organizational growth, increasing regulatory complexity, redevelopment activity, and heightened expectations for timely, accurate and forward-looking financial information. The internal materials describe the organization as growing, expanding and evolving, with heightened responsibility to ensure affordability of what is being built and with forecasted reporting becoming key to ensuring planned spending remains within means.

Strategic Purpose of the Role

The Executive Director Finance will lead the evolution of the finance function from a primarily operational reporting model to an enterprise-level strategic finance platform capable of supporting multi-entity oversight, redevelopment financing, long-range forecasting, financial governance, Ministry funding optimization, risk management, payroll governance, financial systems, analytics and organizational decision support.

The role is intended to ensure that the organization has the financial leadership, governance, reporting discipline and analytical capacity required to support sustainable operations, responsible growth, major capital redevelopment, funder accountability, Board oversight and mission impact.

Qualifications and Experience

Required

• CPA designation in good standing.
• University degree in accounting, finance, business administration, commerce, public administration, healthcare administration or a related field.
• Significant progressive senior financial leadership experience.
• Experience in a not-for-profit, healthcare, long-term care, seniors care, public sector, charitable or similarly regulated/funded environment.
• Demonstrated experience with budgeting, forecasting, audited financial statements, external reporting, internal controls and Board-level financial reporting.
• Experience supporting or reporting to a Board of Directors, Finance & Audit Committee or equivalent governance body.
• Strong understanding of funded service environments, restricted funding, compliance reporting and public accountability.
• Experience leading finance teams and strengthening finance department structure, systems and processes.
• Demonstrated ability to support capital planning, debt financing, redevelopment modelling or major project financial oversight.
• Excellent communication, analytical, relationship-building and problem-solving skills.

• Experience in Ontario long-term care or seniors care.
• Knowledge of Ontario long-term care funding, Ministry reporting, redevelopment funding and compliance expectations.
• Experience with multi-entity, multi-site or multi-service organizations.
• Experience with charitable/not-for-profit accounting and fund accounting.
• Experience with capital campaigns, donor-restricted funds or fundraising-related financial reporting.
• Experience with payroll governance in unionized or complex workforce environments.
• Experience with financial system modernization, dashboard development or FP&A.
• Master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, health administration or related field
