Who we need

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, we are looking to add an API Developer to our Agile development team. You will play a highly valued role on web initiatives from conception to post-production. You will modify and update existing user-facing web-based software products using PHP frameworks (Laravel for REST APIs).

This is a hybrid role requiring 3 days per month in office.

Technical Challenges: You will lead the decision-making process for transitioning from a monolithic to an API-based architecture, helping us determine whether to modify our existing setup or start from scratch. You will design and implement the API architecture, creating a strong foundation for migrating all systems from non-API to API. In this role, you will spend 70% of your time coding and 30% mentoring other developers, sharing your expertise and guiding them through best practices.

As our new API Developer, you will:

• Build. You will develop and maintain RESTful APIs using PHP and Laravel. You will write code that interfaces with numerous internal and 3rd party systems. You will architect and design API solutions that are secure, efficient, and maintainable. You will program large-scale, high-volume websites in a load-balanced or web farm/cloud environment.
• Own. You will work on multiple projects, balancing competing deadlines and deliverables. You will serve as a steward that ensures APIs deliver value to the enterprise. You will be responsible for the reliability and maintenance of customer-facing web applications.
• Share knowledge. You will promote and advocate for new ways of using APIs, encouraging others to adopt these models and showing how they can benefit the organization. You will train business and technical leaders, developers, and product managers on API practices, opportunities, and realities in multiple formats.

You bring:

• The technical experience. You have in-depth backend programming experience with both monolithic applications and API-based architectures. You are skilled in creating RESTful APIs, developing API documentation, and working with cloud services like AWS and version control systems like Git. You have experience or the ability to quickly get up to speed with the Laravel framework and Vue.js. Additionally, you are familiar with project management and bug-tracking tools, unit testing frameworks, and SQL database design principles.
• The initiative. You are a driven technologist passionate about creating new products and optimizing existing products and features. You thrive in an Agile environment and want to share best practices and ideas for innovation. You love solving problems for a different product every day, stepping up to different challenges.
