Job Overview:

The Junior Clerk serves as the face of food services because of the customer service role the incumbent plays. The Junior Clerk visits patients at the bedside to obtain diet orders and enters selections into the Computrition software program. Other responsibilities include visiting patients upon admission to obtain diet preferences, inputting printed menu selections, reconciling a smart substitution report, and recording patient requests/concerns for the Dietetic Technicians' follow-up. Prints nightly tallies, prepares and readiesmeal tickets.

Accountabilities:

• Enters all patients' meal choices (breakfast, lunch and dinner) into the Computrition system at the bedside as per the visitation list. Double checks selections by reading choices back to patient for confirmation. Telephones some patients to obtain selections on time. Responsible for printing and resolving a Smart Substitution Conflict Report in advance of visiting patients. Visits all new admissions to obtain dietary information and preferences. Enters menu selections from printed menus in a timely way.
• Substitutes appropriate menu choices based on patients' dietary restrictions bearing in mind what can be realistically provided.
• Records patients' requests/concerns and submits these and other information to the Dietetic Technician for follow-up
• Prints meal tallies for the next day. Prints, rips and sorts tray tickets. Reviews for errors before stamping and assembles in correct tray line order.
• Helps print, assemble and staple printed CCC menus for distribution on Thursday afternoon,
• May be required to help CCC patients with menu marking in addition to taking diet orders for some via the Spoken Menu.
• Answers telephone after Administrative Support peer is off duty. Processes call back requests.
• Collaborates with Dietetic Tech and Diet Office admin staff regarding nutritional issues involved with patient feeding and ensures consistent application of required diet therapy measures during meal service.
• Meets with Dietetic Technician to understand new menu changes.
• Performs filing and clerk relief duties in the Diet Office when an admin support peer is out of office. Performs other duties as assigned (this may include tray accuracy and waste audits, patient surveys, updating the menu photo book, patient visitation in CCC, etc. as needed)

Qualifications:

• High School Diploma
• Computer data entry courses at the college level. Previous experience using Computrition is ideal
• Experience assisting and interacting with hospital patients preferred
• Previous clerk experience, preferably in a fast paced hospital or clinic setting that required face to face patient interaction
• Demonstrated accuracy and attention to detail in data entry, recording information and filing
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written, listening and verbal). Must be proficient in English. Competencies in other languages an asset
• Some weekend work may be required before/after a statutory holiday
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and in a team setting
• Robust computer keyboarding skills. Ability to learn and effectively utilize the Computrition food services computer program
• Advanced customer service skills
• Basic Microsoft Office Suite including Word and Outlook
• Excellent time management skills, including prioritizing own work
• Must be comfortable talking with patients about food. Familiarity with basic nutrition and what a common North American diet is, would be helpful
• Evidence of satisfactory attendance record
