Are you a motivated team player looking for a career working with animals? Do you have experience working with challenging dogs, providing care, handling, and/or treatment? The FVRD is seeking up to 2 casual Animal Care Attendants to join our team in the exciting field of animal control. This role allows you to focus your time on benefiting the lives of animals – providing excellent quality of care for impounded dogs, as well as some poultry and livestock. The role offers a mixture of manual duties such as kennel cleaning, feeding, and exercising the animals. Under the guidance of the Animal Welfare and Regulatory Supervisor, you will work with animals through training and behaviour modification plans, conduct adoption screening and meet-and-greet appointments to find homes for adoptable dogs, and provide routine medical treatment and medications as directed by a veterinarian.  There are some basic clerical duties required of this role such as filling out forms and keeping accurate records, as well as corresponding with potential adopters and volunteers by email, telephone and in person. If you possess transferable skills from other animal-related roles, this job might be for you! 

The ideal candidate will possess:

• Completion of grade 12 supplemented by courses in animal behaviour, animal welfare or a related field plus a minimum of 6 months in a similar role or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
• Good computer skills, preferably with experience in Microsoft Office;
• Experience with animal behaviour, animal welfare, and disease management;
• Physically fit and able to work outdoors in all types of weather and be able to lift and carry bulky objects;
• Able to work independently with minimal supervision and work well as part of a team;
• Excellent communication skills including conflict resolution skills, and the ability to express thoughts and ideas clearly and communicate effectively with members of the public and co-workers;
• Must genuinely enjoy interacting and participating in activities with animals, and offer them opportunities to become successful for placement in a new home;
• Demonstrate maturity, sound judgement and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive matters with discretion and integrity;
• Must be prepared to work flexible hours which will include evenings and weekends and statutory holidays; and
• A valid Driver's Licence.

The job rate for this casual union position is $25.67 per hour plus 18% in lieu of benefits. This casual position is to relieve or replace employees on an intermittent and temporary basis. You must be available for shifts from Monday through Saturday anytime between 7:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m.
