Senior Data Engineer (DBX)

As a Senior Data Engineer (DBX), you will design and deliver scalable data solutions for high-volume, complex data. You will lead technical design, build reliable data flows, and establish engineering standards across the data lifecycle.

* Please note that the internal job title for this position is Senior Application Developer.

Your Role:

• Design scalable lakehouse and big-data architectures on DBX.
• Build and optimize batch and streaming data flows using distributed data processing frameworks, Delta Lake, and SQL.
• Lead solution design from source ingestion through transformation, storage, and consumption.
• Establish standards for data quality, security, observability, performance, and cost.
• Guide engineers through design reviews, development practices, testing, and deployment.
• Partner with architects, product owners, and business teams to translate requirements into durable data products.

Your Profile:  

• University degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• 10+ years of data engineering experience, including senior technical ownership.
• Deep hands-on experience with DBX, distributed data processing frameworks, Delta Lake, and SQL.
• Proven experience designing big-data and Lakehouse architectures at scale.
• Experience building reliable batch and streaming pipelines and complex data flows.
• Strong Python or Scala engineering skills, including reusable frameworks and performance tuning.
• Expertise in dimensional modelling, data contracts, schema evolution, and data quality controls.
• Experience with orchestration, CI/CD, version control, automated testing, and infrastructure as code.
• Knowledge of cloud data services, identity, access control, encryption, and secrets management.
• Experience implementing monitoring, lineage, auditability, and production support practices.
• Ability to assess trade-offs and communicate architecture decisions clearly.
• Demonstrated technical leadership, mentoring, and stakeholder management.
• Experience working with distributed teams across locations and time zones.

Our base salary range for this role is between $135,000 and $160,000 per year , plus an opportunity for an annual company bonus based upon a percentage of eligible pay. The salary estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for candidates hired in this position. Factors that may be used to determine your actual salary include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to internal equity.

This role is located in our Toronto office on 390 Bay St , and we operate in a hybrid work model. This job posting is for a new vacancy.
