Manager, Research & Development (Hard Cheese)

Our client, a leading food manufacturing organization, is seeking an experienced Manager, Research & Development to lead innovation, product development, and process improvement initiatives within its hard cheese portfolio.
This is an opportunity for a hands-on R&D leader who combines strong technical expertise with the ability to lead projects, influence cross-functional teams, and drive new product development from concept through commercialization.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development and execution of new product innovation, formulation optimization, and process improvement initiatives within the hard cheese category.
- Manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously, ensuring timelines, objectives, and business priorities are achieved.
- Design, oversee, and interpret research activities, plant trials, and product validation programs.
- Partner closely with Operations, Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality, Engineering, Marketing, and Sales teams to successfully execute development projects.
- Identify and support cost-saving opportunities through ingredient optimization, process improvements, and operational efficiencies.
- Investigate product and manufacturing challenges, develop solutions, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Provide technical expertise and product knowledge to support commercialization and customer-facing materials.
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of R&D professionals, fostering collaboration, accountability, and career growth.
- Support a safe working environment while ensuring compliance with food safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
Key Qualifications
- University degree in Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 10 years of experience within the food or dairy manufacturing industry.
- Experience leading product development, innovation, and commercialization projects.
- Strong understanding of food manufacturing processes, formulation, and product functionality.
- Knowledge of GMP, HACCP, and Canadian food regulations.
- Proven ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders at all levels of an organization.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to balance technical details and business objectives.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and relationship-building skills.
- Previous people's leadership experience is considered an asset.
- A master's degree or PhD is considered an asset.
