Stabilization Advocate — One Full-Time Position

Location: Calgary (NW and SE). Must be able to work from all four office locations.

Status: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 7.5 hours per day (8:30 am to 4:30 pm), with occasional evening or weekend hours.

Salary: $53,770 per year plus benefits.

Reports to: Manager of Programs.

About the role

The Stabilization Advocate supports community members on their financial journey toward stabilization. Working collaboratively, our advocates deliver the Basic Needs Fund and the Supports and Referral programs. You're often the first person a community member meets at Rise: you'll handle intake, connect people to the resources they need, and stay with them as they move from crisis toward stability.

What you'd be doing

Intake and assessment

• Greet every community member with dignity and respect, and make sure they feel supported and connected.
• Provide intake and assessment for individuals and families accessing Rise's services.
• Identify each person's needs and match them with the right resources, then follow up to confirm referrals fit and adjust as needed.
• Build a comprehensive plan with each community member and connect them to ongoing support.
• Input client data accurately into the data management system and handle sensitive information with care.

Stabilization and basic needs

• Help individuals and families access the Basic Needs Fund.
• Coordinate the services and supports that meet each person's identified needs.
• Advocate on behalf of community members with agencies, departments, and systems as required.
• Support people to build their own self-advocacy skills.
• Provide crisis support and coaching so no one feels alone in their journey.
• Stay current on community resources, referral processes, new programming, and eligibility requirements.
• Conduct case conferences as needed, and complete required documentation and data entry.

Mobility coaching

• Carry a one-on-one mobility coaching caseload of at least 5 people at a time.
• Coach participants to strengthen their decision-making, persistence, and resilience.
• Help participants build the skills and mindsets that moving out of poverty requires.
• Attend training and staff development tied to the Mobility Coaching program.

Cross-functional support (as needed)

• Support Empowerment programming as needed, including Financial Coaching, Earn and Learn, RESPs, and Taxes and Benefits.
• Help with financial empowerment impact measurement and stakeholder communications.
• Support recruitment, delivery, and evaluation of financial empowerment programs, and provide information to community members interested in RESPs, Financial Coaching, and Matched Savings.
• Support Rise's tax clinics, including helping schedule clinics, building relationships with tax volunteers, maintaining the CVITP membership, and helping clients gather the documents they need to file.

Data, evaluation, and impact

• Complete required assessments and surveys for program evaluation.
• Keep accurate, continuous case notes in the data management system to support a strong cross-functional team.
• Help build client knowledge and measure the transformations community members experience.

Team, partnerships, and administration

• Help identify gaps in services and common community needs.
• Maintain professional relationships with community partners and act as a strong partnership broker.
• Monitor and follow up on the call-back list, intercept incoming calls, cover front desk and reception on a rotating schedule, and provide day-to-day office support.
• Attend team and community meetings as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

• High school completion.
• The ability to consistently offer unconditional positive regard to a diverse population.
• Strong attention to detail and well-developed interpersonal skills.
• Availability for a varied schedule, mainly regular office hours with occasional evenings or weekends.

Preferred

• A degree, and one to two years of experience in the social services sector.
• Familiarity with the philosophical underpinnings of serving marginalized people.
• Knowledge of community resources.

Working conditions and hours

A mix of sitting and standing, with workdays at any of our four NW and SE Calgary locations. 7.5-hour days, 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday, with flexibility for occasional evening and weekend hours.
