Reporting to the Manager of Manager, Transplant, Quality & NSQIP, The NSQIP Data Analyst is accountable for high quality data compilation, verification, documentation and entry into the American College of Surgeons (ACS) NSQIP database of all eligible surgeries for the hospital. This is done via the identification of surgical patients for inclusion into program registry through the application of strict program inclusion/exclusion criteria and subsequent collection of preoperative, intraoperative, and 30-day postoperative follow-up data components for the program through the effective utilization of the hospital medical record systems and via direct follow-up with patients. The NSQIP Data Analyst manages both internal and external relationships, including relationships with surgeons, OR staff, and staff at other NSQIP-participating hospitals (provincial, federal, and international). This role is responsible for responding to internal data requests by extracting data from the NSQIP system, converting the data to a user-friendly format, and providing interpretation and analysis of the data. This position partners on quality improvement projects and other initiatives to influence and improve processes upon which data collection relies as well as patient outcomes.

Rate of Pay: $32.33 per hour - $43.07 per hour

Hours of Work: 37.5 hours per week

Qualifications

• Successful completion of a two (2) year College Diploma in Health Information Management, Business or Computer Systems Technology; University Degree preferred
• Successful completion of a Health Information Management Certification (CHIM)
• Certified American College of Surgeons Surgical Clinical Reviewer preferred
• Minimum 1 year of recent relevant experience, 5 years health information management with HIM coding experience preferred
• Advanced proficiency in data collection and management
• Detailed content knowledge and proficiency with a variety of provincial and national healthcare data sets
• Ability to understand and work with associated tools and applications
• Ability to prepare and analyze complex reports; optimize existing technology to automate current manual reporting processes for improved efficiency and effectiveness; create complex queries to expose trends within specified indicators
• Demonstrated excellence in identifying data needs to support decision-making and in determining appropriate data sources
• Ability to assess data analytically for quality and consistency
• Ability to anticipate and respond to client needs in a timely and effective manner and keeps team members informed about issues
