Environmental Services is at the heart of sustainability and safety, operating advanced water treatment systems, managing solid waste, and underground infrastructure to protect public health and the environment. General Description

The Supervisor, Water Treatment Operations provides guidance and support in all aspects of water treatment operations. Responsibilities

Employee Development: supervises team members, plans and balances workload, ensures fair management and consistent work processes, mentors, coaches, supports staff, and assists in recruitment and training. Research and Implementation: conducts continuous research, develops and implements effective strategies, tools and guidelines, analyzes program effectiveness, recommends improvements, and provides input on business plans, initiatives and budget. Operational Guidance: maintains communication with external agencies involved in water treatment, prepares and submits regulatory reports to federal and provincial agencies, Health Centers and First Nations, identifies and recommends communication strategies, ensures timely production of required special reports. Operations Management: oversees Water Treatment, truck fill and Pump house facilities, maintains service levels, enforces written procedures, administers resources within limits, procures services and consumables, sets tone for the operational unit, and supports the maintenance team. Compliance and Standards: ensures plants operate and are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation and safety requirements, strictly follows environmental and public safety standards. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills and ability to assess situations from a business perspective. Strong team player with collaborative style, project management and facilitation skills. Customer focused with proven ability to build effective relationships with internal customers, external providers and industry contacts. Thorough understanding of all legislation, standards and best practices pertaining to water treatment operations. Proficiency in various software applications. Sound, practical judgment and independent decision making. Knowledge of all equipment and processes used in water treatment operations. Familiarity with health, safety and environmental standards. Education

Water Treatment Level III is required. Water Treatment Level IV must be obtained within 18 months of filling the position. Water Distribution, Wastewater Treatment and collection certification and Trades certificate are considered assets. For Fort Chipewyan Water Treatment Plant: Water Treatment Level II, Water Distribution Level I, Wastewater Treatment Level I, Wastewater Collection Level I. Experience

Seven (7) years of experience in a municipal water treatment environment with a minimum of two (2) years of supervisory experience. Experience in a public sector environment with unionised and non-unionised employees is an asset. Other Requirements

Submission of a Criminal Record Check. Valid Alberta Class five (5) operators license is required. Willingness to work outside in all conditions. Strongly recommended immunizations for work in unsanitary conditions. Safety

Incumbent must adhere to the Health and Safety Directive and Occupational Health and Safety Act, ensuring safety for employees, contractors and the public. Additional safety training will be required in accordance with municipal procedures. Inclusion Statement
