The main purpose of the Junior Policy Analyst position is to provide policy research-related support to the Strategic Policy and Evaluation Division's current projects and initiatives. The incumbent will provide analytical support to the Division while completing the Policy Analyst Orientation Training Program under the direction and mentorship of the Director.

Primary duties will include:

• Collecting and synthesizing data in writing to support the development of reports and presentations;
• Performing basic research on policy and technical issues related to Division's projects and initiatives;
• Writing draft policy reports based on well-defined and credible evidence;
• Researching and developing annotated bibliographies and reference material for the purposes of making policy-related decisions;
• Completing systematic analysis of peer-reviewed literature;
• Attending meetings and preparing minutes (e.g., Departmental meetings, interdepartmental meetings, Federal-Provincial-Territorial meetings, focus groups, etc.);
• Assisting with the collection of: qualitative, quantitative and other basic information for the purposes of program and policy evaluations, development of the Department's Annual Reports, and gender/diversity-based analysis of programs; program performance and finance data for the purposes of preparing annual reports for the Sustainable Canadian Agriculture Partnership (SCAP) cost-sharing agreement; and qualitative information from managers and program leads for the purposes of developing programs;
• Other duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• An undergraduate degree. A Master's degree is an asset.
• Must have graduated from university within the last 2 years.
• Must have experience using Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint).
• Some experience leading projects or teams.
• Some experience in identifying, retrieving, evaluating and synthesizing evidence from peer-reviewed and grey literature on a broad range of topics.
• Must have strong skills to present information using traditional and/or digital media in a clear, concise and accurate manner through effective written, oral and visual communication.
• Must have strong interpersonal and intercultural communication skills with the ability to foster collaboration and partnerships.
• Must be able to edit documents for grammatical and other errors.

Other Qualifications:

• Bilingualism considered an asset.
• An undergraduate degree in the humanities or social sciences is an asset.
• Completion of university courses specific to public policy and/or public administration considered an asset.
• Project management certification and/or coursework considered an asset.
• Graphic design skills considered an asset (for example, experience using Adobe Indesign, Adobe Pro, etc.).
• Experience in office administration duties considered an asset (e.g., arranging travel, ordering office supplies, organizing meetings, taking minutes, etc.).
