Skylark Security & Communications is a technology integration and security installation company built on one mission: building long-lasting relationships through innovative solutions. We design and install surveillance, access control, security alarm, and network systems for commercial clients across Nova Scotia, and we're looking for a closer who wants to build something alongside us.

THE ROLE

We're hiring a Commercial Sales Representative to drive new business and manage the full sales cycle from first conversation to signed contract. This is not an order-taking or quoting role. We need someone who is genuinely hungry to close, who thrives on hunting new opportunities, and who gets energized by solving a client's problem, not just filling out a proposal.

You'll primarily sell to commercial clients (property management, retail, industrial, First Nations communities, and multi-site operators), with occasional residential work as a secondary focus. Systems you'll be quoting and selling include:

• Video surveillance / CCTV

• Access control

• Security alarm systems

• Basic structured networks

WHAT YOU'LL ACTUALLY DO

• Hunt and develop new commercial accounts. This is a business development role, not a passive lead-response role

• Meet with clients to understand the real problem, not just take a spec sheet request

• Recommend the right solution, not the biggest or easiest one to sell

• Build quotes and proposals that hit company margin targets. Pricing is a tool, not the pitch

• Own relationships from first contact through installation handoff and beyond

• Represent Skylark's mission in every interaction: solutions first, relationship for the long haul

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• A proven closer: you can point to deals you've hunted, developed, and won

• Comfortable in a consultative, solutions-based sales process, not a transactional one

• Confident having technical conversations (security/AV/network background is an asset, not a requirement; we'll train the technical side)

• Self-motivated and comfortable with a pay structure that rewards performance over hours logged

• Based in or able to work the HRM/Dartmouth area, with reliable transportation for client site visits

• Valid driver's license and flexibility to travel: Skylark's territory is expanding beyond HRM into other Atlantic provinces, and this role will grow with it

COMPENSATION

This is a commission-driven role with a guaranteed base salary floor, designed to attract serious sales talent while keeping the incentive squarely on closing business.

• Base salary (floor): $36,000/year, guaranteed regardless of commission performance. You're never at zero

• Commission: 10% of gross profit on closed/invoiced jobs, uncapped

• Ramp-up draw: $1,200/month recoverable draw for your first 4 months on the job, so early months while you build pipeline aren't a financial gap. This is an advance against future commission, not a bonus. It's paid regardless of what closes in month 1-4, and gets offset by commission as deals start landing

• Health benefits: provided after a 3-month probation period

• Other company-supported benefits: vehicle allowance or company-provided vehicle, company phone, and a monthly client entertainment allowance for meetings/dinners

On-target earnings by performance tier (base + commission, annualized):

• Conservative tier: $18,000/month GP closed → approx. $58,000/year

• Target tier: $30,000/month GP closed → approx. $72,000/year

• Stretch tier: $45,000+/month GP closed → approx. $90,000+/year

Commission is uncapped. Top performers who consistently exceed target GP will earn beyond the Stretch tier.
