ALERT is looking for an accomplished Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide strategic financial leadership and help guide the organization's continued success.
Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, the CFO serves as the principal financial advisor to the CEO, ALERT Management Team, and Board of Directors, balancing executive leadership with oversight of a lean, high-performing finance team. This role is ideal for a collaborative leader who enjoys influencing strategy, improving organizational performance, and delivering operational excellence.

Salary: $163,488 – $184,995 annually

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) is one of Canada's leading integrated law enforcement organizations, bringing together municipal police services, the RCMP, and specialized investigative teams to combat organized crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking, child exploitation, and other serious and complex crime across Alberta.

ABOUT THE ROLE
As Chief Financial Officer (CFO), you will provide strategic financial leadership and serve as a trusted advisor to the Chief Executive Officer, ALERT Management Team, and Board of Directors. As a member of the ALERT Management Team, you will help shape organizational priorities while ensuring strong financial stewardship, informed decision-making, and the effective delivery of finance services. Working with a lean and collaborative team, you'll have the opportunity to influence strategy, improve processes, and make a meaningful impact across the organization.
In this role, you will:
- Provide strategic financial advice to the CEO, Board of Directors, and ALERT Management Team.
- Lead financial planning, budgeting, forecasting, treasury management, and financial reporting.
- Ensure strong financial governance, internal controls, regulatory compliance, and audit readiness.
- Lead and develop a high-performing Finance team while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen financial processes, systems, and organizational effectiveness.
- Build productive relationships with funding partners, auditors, financial institutions, and other stakeholders.
WHO YOU ARE
You're a collaborative leader who combines strategic thinking with practical execution.
You understand that great financial leadership isn't limited to the boardroom - it also means building strong teams, improving processes, and helping the organization make sound decisions every day.
You bring:
- CPA designation in good standing.
- A degree in Finance, Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration, or a related discipline (MBA considered an asset).
- Significant senior financial leadership experience.
- Experience leading financial planning, reporting, governance, and organizational decision-making.
- Exceptional communication skills and the ability to translate complex financial information for diverse audiences.
- Sound judgment, integrity, and a collaborative leadership style.
- A commitment to continuous improvement and organizational excellence.
Experience within a non-profit, broader public sector, law enforcement, municipal, or publicly funded organization is considered an asset.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
This position is based at ALERT Headquarters in Strathcona County, Alberta.
The role is office-based and requires the ability to work in a collaborative team environment. Occasional travel and some after-hours work may be required to support financial reporting cycles, audits, Board meetings, and organizational priorities.
