The Town of Pasadena is seeking an energetic, well-organized and community-minded individual to join its Recreation & Community Services Department as a permanent Recreation Services Coordinator.

Reporting to the Director of Recreation & Community Services, the Recreation Services Coordinator is responsible for supporting the planning, development, coordination, delivery and evaluation of sport, recreation and leisure programs and community special events for residents of all ages and abilities.

The Recreation Services Coordinator works collaboratively with community organizations, groups, agencies, volunteers and other partners to help ensure a diverse range of recreational, social and community opportunities are available within the municipality while minimizing duplication and barriers to participation.

The position also supports the promotion of programs and events, recruitment and coordination of activity leaders and volunteers, community-initiated programming, assessment of community recreation needs, grant funding applications, and the development of recommendations for consideration by the Director of Recreation & Community Services.

This position operates on a 35-hour flexible work schedule and will require some scheduled evening and weekend work as part of the regular work schedule to support programs, special events and other departmental activities.

Key Responsibilities

The Recreation Services Coordinator will:

• Promote the Town's vision, values, priorities and objectives and foster positive working relationships based on professionalism, mutual respect, accountability and service to the community.
• Support and promote a culture of wellness, inclusion, accessibility and safety.
• In consultation with the Director of Recreation & Community Services, assist with the development and implementation of social, recreational and community programs and services based on identified community needs and a community development philosophy.
• Plan, coordinate, implement and evaluate recreation programs, initiatives and community special events.
• Conduct ongoing analysis of community recreation and leisure needs and identify opportunities for new or enhanced programs and services.
• Communicate and collaborate with community organizations, groups, agencies and individuals to strengthen cooperation and coordination of programs and services and avoid unnecessary duplication.
• Identify and develop potential partnerships with public sector organizations, private businesses and not-for-profit organizations to respond to identified community needs.
• Provide information, resources and support to community organizations, groups and individuals to assist with the enhancement of existing programs and development of new recreation and community opportunities.
• Research and maintain awareness of Provincial, Federal and other grant and funding opportunities and prepare funding applications as required or directed by the Director of Recreation & Community Services.
• Assist with the preparation of operating budgets for recreation programs, services and special events and monitor program-related revenues and expenditures as required.
• Assist with the preparation and completion of seasonal recreation program information, schedules, promotional materials and other publications.
• Assist in coordinating promotional and marketing activities relating to Recreation & Community Services programs, special projects and community events.
• Maintain complete and accurate program, event and activity records, participation statistics and related documentation.
• Assist with recreation facility bookings and maintain accurate documentation relating to the use of Recreation & Community Services facilities.
• Assist with the design, coordination and delivery of recreational and community programs offered by the Recreation & Community Services Department.
• Recruit, coordinate and support instructors, activity leaders and volunteers as required for recreation programs and special events.
• Assist and support Town staff on matters relating to recreation and community services.
• Ensure the safe operation and use of equipment associated with assigned duties and report unsafe acts, equipment or conditions to the Director of Recreation & Community Services.
• Perform duties in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and applicable Town policies and procedures.
• Maintain and enhance professional knowledge and skills and participate in training or obtain certifications relevant to the position as requested by the Town.
• Perform other related duties and responsibilities as required.

Qualifications

A university degree with a major concentration in Recreation or Business Administration; two (2) years' related experience in the recreation field; demonstrated proficiency in computers and applicable software applications; proven interpersonal, leadership, written and verbal communication skills; demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships; attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines and work effectively under pressure; hold and maintain a valid Class 5 Newfoundland and Labrador Driver's Licence; hold and maintain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check; capable of being insured and maintaining continuity under the Town's insurance policy; capable of being bonded and maintaining bondability; or any equivalent combination of education, experience and training acceptable to the Town.
