About the Role:
The Youth Success Coordinator is a key member of the Thunder Bay Transitional Housing Program team, responsible for ensuring the safety, stability, and wellbeing of participants. This position provides culturally safe, trauma-informed support while upholding the goals and values of the Thunder Bay Transitional Housing Program.

Reporting to the Supervisor, the Youth Success Coordinator monitors participant safety, enforces program policies, and responds to crisis situations with empathy and professionalism. The role involves maintaining open communication with participants, collaborating with other staff and external service providers (such as security personnel), and documenting relevant information to support case management and service delivery.

In addition to maintaining participant files and responding to requests for information or assistance, Youth Success Coordinator helps connect individuals with culturally relevant services and resources, contributes to program promotion and evaluation efforts, and assists daytime staff by supporting ongoing participant needs. This role may also involve creating support materials and performing light cleaning to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.

The successful candidate will have strong interpersonal and crisis intervention skills, a deep understanding of Indigenous culture and community dynamics, and a commitment to fostering a respectful, inclusive, and healing centered housing environment.

What you will be doing:

• Monitor and maintain the safety of the Thunder Bay Transitional Housing Program and its participants during overnight shifts
• Delivery of associated programs goals including delivery of services and supporting participants within Thunder Bay Transitional Housing Program
• Build strong and effective rapport with participants
• Monitor, enforce, and support program policies and participant agreements as required
• Maintain open lines of communication throughout shift with other Thunder bay Transitional Housing Program overnight staff including those from other agencies and external contractors (e.g. concierge/security services).
• Provide crisis intervention to participants and deescalate situations as required
• Maintain participant files including case notes for pertinent data collection, ensuring confidentiality at all times.
• Perform administrative duties related to case management and service delivery
• Respond to internal information requests (phone calls, e-mails, etc.)
• Assist participants with resources and referrals upon request.
• Assist day-shift Coordinators with client needs and service supports
• Create supporting materials, resources, and/or presentations as required
• Ensure program delivery is consistent with funding agreements, including community engagement and system navigation support
• Program promotion
• Evaluate the effectiveness of service and program delivery
• Light cleaning duties
• Promotes the values of the organization within the workplace and in the community by demonstrating positive and professional relationships with others (employees, citizens, council, volunteers, advocates, etc.)
• Reports all unsafe conditions, hazards or practices, accidents and incidents in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and adheres to all Health and Safety requirements within the MNO’s policies and procedures and provincial legislation.
• Performs other job/branch-related duties as required

Qualifications:

• 1 to 3 years of experience
• Client service experience
• Experience in developing and facilitating presentations
• Experience dealing with crisis situations in a professional manner
• College Diploma (1 or 2 year) in Social Service Work or Youth Worker
• Knowledge of homelessness issues and barriers to accessing housing, especially within Metis and other Indigenous populations
• Advanced communications skills
• Situational awareness
• Organization skills and time/priority-management
• Highly detail-oriented
• Crisis intervention skills
• Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, demonstrate good judgement, and make decisions independently within set processes and procedures
• Demonstrated ability to work alone/independently with minimal supervision

Preferred Qualifications:

• Knowledge of Metis-specific and broader Indigenous policy and research, key challenges, and programs
• Experience in the delivery of homelessness related programs
• Experience in youth service, homelessness, street outreach.
• Demonstrated social services/community supports experience
• Experience dealing with confidential information
• Experience working in coordinating and delivering community-based programs or projects
